    CLAY BREAKS DOWN THE FIRST 5 PICKS FOR NO GOOD REASON EXCEPT I'M BORED

    1.1 Wilmington Wildcats - Erik Keifer (SP)
    Wilmington gets California's #1 overall and gets easily the #1 player in the draft. This kid has legit Pancho Herrera, Pat Dimmick-like #1 stuff. Another worldclass arm in the IL.

    1.2 Baltimore Bulldogs* - Derek Vleugel (SP)
    Baltimore trades their 2nd (gets back a 3rd) to grab International star Vleugel. A definite TOP 5 pitcher in this draft and we project him at Top 20 on the BA Top Prospects list from jump street. HOWEVER, our scouts do not see him at #2.

    1.3 Hyundai Dinos - Dusty Simmons (SS)
    Best position player in a Pitching heavy class. Middle infield is at a premium in the BLB and Hyundai got a star here. Only no brainer bat in the Top 5. We project him as a Top 15-20 OSA guy when this class is published.

    1.4 Carolina Tobs* - Jonathon Burns (SP)
    Weird situation here... Carolina trades out of #2... picks up a 2nd.... AND gets the #2 Pitcher in the draft in our opinion. However, we can't call it a clear win because I think Carolina sending back a 3rd was too generous from the Tobs. That being said, when all is said and done... the league will be BANANAS for Burns. We think Burns could debut as the #1 Prospect when the list is published.

    1.5 New Orleans Dukes - Alex Martinez (SP)
    Needs to grow a little, but this kid is a star. Top 3 player in the draft and likely a Top 5-10 prospect on June 14th. Throws hard. Ridiculous GB%. If he masters that Changeup, he may be the best pitcher in the DL by the late 90's.

    * - Trade

    I emailed Morgantown about being on the clock. Here's hoping he doesn't get AUTO'd. With the strides that team is making, it'd be a shame.

    Let's see how far I get with what I have planned and how quickly I write it. I'm not opposed to adding content afterwards either.

    My next pick is at #19 and I can honestly say that I'd be happy with any of 12 of 14 players left on my scout's draft list.

    I was hoping "Bananas" would drop to me, but I'm happy with Martinez especially considering his level of development and BLB-readiness. I'm troubled by the fact that his suggested BLB role says "bullpen," but at least it doesn't say "strictly bullpen" and hopefully his high intelligence will enable him to develop that change.

    My scout thinks the best hitter is still on the board. Of course, he can't field at SS....

    5 of my top 8 have gone. I'm still left with my #3 pitcher and my #2 hitter. Here's hoping I land one of them.

    Most "ready" pitcher in the draft. I worry about that third pitch forcing him to the bullpen, but I like him otherwise.
