Ed Schmidt was on my draft list as well. My scout wasn't hot on him at all, but his stats are really good.

Interested to see what he becomes as well.

Thanks. I think Smitson has a chance to be decent.

Late inn the 6th round, we selected infielder, Erik Faught. Faught hit over .300 all three years that he started in high school, with his senior year cut short by injury. In 2016, Faught did have two consecutive 21-game hit streaks. My scout has him as 6-3-2-6-5 which seems more in line with someone who came close to hitting in nearly 40+ straight games.

Pretty happy with our draft class overall so far. Still a few names that I hope fall to me in the 7th but I'm not getting my hopes up. In years that I don't really love the draft class I usually will stick to mainly high school players and this class certainly fits that mold.

    1.13 Malik Clark - SP
#1 Ranked HS Pitcher ... The biggest draft gamble I've ever made in my time with the Millers. Torn Flexor tendon in his elbow has him recovering for 16 months. Three pitches that have some room to grow, as he's about to turn 17 years old in 3 days, the reality is that he may not pitch in our system until the 2019 season. That's fine with us as we will be babying him along. Hard to not love his projections as a 6'5 16 year old, and his numbers have been outstanding in HS. This year he struck out 62 in 46 IP and posted 10.3/12.0/12.1 K/9 in his three seasons. OSA has him at 6/6/6 POT and my scout sees him at 5/6/7. Hopefully we can overcome this injury and strike gold.

    2.5 Joey York -
#1 ranked HS hitter Really sweated this one out... York was one of the first hitters that caught my eye when the draft began, OF Switch hitting 17 year old who put up insane numbers in HS and made improvements in his game each season. This year he crushed opposing pitching to a tune of .401/.482/.663/1.145 and has seen his HR improve each year from 7 - 8- 11, and his K's decline from 29 - 20 - 17. We'll have to see where he fits in defensively. My scout raves about him and says it's easy to dream on him and has him at 6-6-7-2-6 (lol @ the 2)

    3.26 RJ Dunlap - C
Durable 20 year old LH hitting catcher, 11th best hitter in the CCBL nothing really pops out in terms of his POT ratings but I like how he improved this season from a .274/.356/.463 slash to a .307/.382/.538 number. Also, he's the 3 hitter for his team and that is always something I look for.

    4.2 Pat Sneed - P
Hunch pick. 6'6 17 year old who struck out a batter an inning (and damn near walked one too). Went with a hunch with Ted Kessler a few years back after he posted underwhelming stats and he looked like he might be a find for a while. Rolling with that theory in this one.

    5.24 Fred Smart - OF/INF/TBD
Interesting prospect who looks like he has some room for growth. .337/.416/.480/.896 OPS was enough for me to take a flier here.

Overall I'm really satisfied with the draft, but being able to get the #1 ranked HS Pitcher and Hitter really makes this draft feel like a success.

I didn't want to take a third straight pitcher in round 4, but all the hitters I liked went off the board right before my pick.

During last year's draft, I was pretty happy with my 4th and 5th round picks. Not so much this time around. Doesn't seem like there's as much depth this time.

My scout has his batting ratings at 5/5/6/7/3 but his pitching is also at 6/5/5 with 5/7/2 ratings for his Cutter, Curveball and Changeup.

He's not rated at any infield position but he's been playing as a 3B.

Might try him as a hybrid pitcher/infielder in A-ball and see what happens.
You took him right before I could. He was 1a, Marshall was 1b.
