Not that I like the new way either, but I read on the OOTP boards that the new system is supposed to allow the scouts the ability to see players better over time, so no more e-mails. Which sucks.

For example, if you draft a high school player that looks like a stud, he may actually be worse than you think based on the scouts likes and dislikes or tendancies.

Then, as a scout sees a player more, they see them more accuratly.

I can see that as realistic, but OOTP 9 is saying that a player is what he is. His actual ratings may never change as a prospect, which is unrealistic, IMO.

I miss the old system as well and wish they would fuse the two together. Not sure what they have in store for the future though.

Someone on here (Riverman?) said that they are now looking at stats mostly, and I kinda agree. I just dont trust having one scout to evaluate players. Makes the draft a crapshoot.

Before we could have five guys scout a player, and if three of them really liked a guy and you trusted those three scouts, you'd be OK taking the guy. Now you wonder if the guy is still available because he just really sucks and your scout has a hard on for the guy for whatever reason.

I dunno, it's a fluid situation. Other guys are getting upgraded at the same time, other guys are just simply not prospects anymore.

That prospect list has always sucked anyway IMO. It adds flavor, but that's all. To use that as a guide can be suicidal.

I don't view it as a talent drop, but more an unmasking. Like, "Dam, we weren't too sure about this guy, but it looks like me might have a steal", or vice versa.

That's gone thankfully since there won't be any more huge ratings drops, they are more tired to injury now I believe.

I wish they had kept the old scouting system where you had 3-5 scouts etc. and they operated the same way, but the scouting director handled it, so you'd line up your tasks with the director and he'd determine how to handle it instead of having to manage 5 guys individually.

The new system does kinda suck.

But at least you got a lot of opinions, and you never know if your scout was finding a diamond in the rough, or giving you bad advice. But to me, that's more realistic than what we have now.

So, while I have no idea what the statement from your scout really means, I don't see much value in the text based stuff anyway. How I long for OOTP 8....

I agree with this comment more or less. The scouting system in the old version may have been a little too cumbersome but the new system is just silly.

Who came up with the idea that some scouts are great at identifying potential superstars but don't seem to have the slightest idea which of the remaining players are potential major leaguers, while others are good at identifying potential major leaguers but don't know who the stars will be? Just dumb.

I also really miss being able to get reports on my own teams or on players I am hoping to acquire in a trade.

I think it is coming from his contact rating and the reason his BABIP is so high is that his contact rating is high and his avoid K rating is low.

There really is a fundamental flaw in this type of player. What kind of player strikes out frequently, has almost no power but hits for a high average? There are none. The only thing left is for him to have an unrealisticly high BABIP.

Yeah this is exactly the type of guy El Prez is referring to in the original post in this thread. My scouts comment on Acosta -

"Simply hopeless at the plate. Probably won't hit more than .330 over the course of a season. As close to an automatic out as you can get."

Who comes up with the idea for scouts to make comments like this one?

We don't have those types of players in this league and we need to keep it that way.

Yeah, I read somewhere that there are some serious problems with them as well. I don't think they are an option untill the issues are fixed.
