The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 16th Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.
Player of the Year
P Norm Aouita, SEA - At 37 years old it can be said that Norm 'Vowel' Aouita loves pitching in Seattle. This season he went 15-8 while posting a 1.85 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 7.0 WAR, and 217 ERA+. He was also named an All-Star for the fourth time in his career. The other three times were also in Seattle, from 2043-2045. In amongst that time he played for Batavia, Syracuse, Phoenix, and Maine...but never at this level. In the history of the BLB with pitchers having a 7.0 WAR season or greater, his 1.85 ERA is top 25. He helped lead Seattle to a 97 win season, and was also 3-0 with a 1.73 ERA in the playoffs. If only he could have pitched more the Pilots might have gotten past their rival Bats.

Hitter of the Year
3B Julian Irwin, CAL - In the battle of the Julians, the DK went with Irwin, who turned in a banner year for the Kodiaks. His 7.7 WAR led the league as he hit .284/.381/.606 with 47 HRs, 109 RBIs, and a 164 OPS+. He also played 144 games at third where he put up a very solid +4.8 ZR. There were rumors he was heading back to Washington in free agency, but those were quickly dispelled when he signed back with the Kodiaks for another three years.

Pitcher of the Year
P Charlie Spence, CAR - All though 'Vowel' won the Player of the Year as a pitcher we decided to throw Spence a bone, since he did set the single season record for strikeouts. Not only did he set it, he smashed it as he finished the season at 18-8 with a 3.06 ERA and 360 K's! He also set the record for most strikeouts in a game when he fanned 21 against Windy City on July 30th. The 25 year old has solidified himself as the best young pitcher in the game and the scary thing is (at least for opposing batters) is he's just entering his prime.

Rookie of the Year
LF Neil Wanat, WIL - We're in a new age in the BLB as players just keep getting younger, stronger, and faster thanks to advancement in medical care and training regiments. Wanat is a testament to this as he was a first round pick in the 2054 draft, then proceeded to play in 141 major league games this season. Over those games he hit .331/.383/.564 with 26 HRs, 87 RBIs, while putting up a 152 OPS+ and 4.5 WAR. If Wanat is 1A, then Drillers third basemen Ja'Quan McLaren is 1A.1 as he hit .320 with 29 HRs and 97 RBIs while posting a 5.1 WAR. McLaren though was drafted in 2051 and will be 25 next season, so we gave the edge to the young kid.

All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily first base)
CF Tom Holderness, IND - The 23 year old Clown was a first round pick by Indy and could be their centerfielder for the next decade. This season not only did he hit .286 with 17 HRs and 86 RBIs, but he had 383 total chances in center and never made one error. The second year man was born in West Carson, CA and played college ball at UNC before being picked 5th overall in 2052. Oh ya he also hit .286 with 17 HRs, 78 RBIs, and 8 SBs.

Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)
C Lindsay 'Oil Can' Einaudi, IND - We stay in Indy as the 34 year old 'Oil Can' led our criteria with a 30.7 RTO% this past season. Originally signed by the Rum Runners in 2038, he moved on in free agency to Denver before being traded to the Clowns in 2053. He doesn't have the best arm in the league, but his experience and knowledge allow him to get ahead of the curve and snipe people from behind the plate. Overall 101 runners tried to run on him, and 31 of them had to trot back to the dugout with a sad look on their face.

Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
(Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)
1B Brian Fisher, PHI - The Freedom rookie was a 7th round pick in 2047 by Philly, but played in the minors until he became a free agent last season. He ended up signing back with the Freedom a month later and was promoted to the BLB when the season started. During his first year in the majors he hit .246/.314/.400 with 15 HRs, 52 RBIs and 37 stolen bases. Those 37 SBs came on only 42 attempts as his 88.1 stolen base success rate wins this award.

Ludacris Award
(Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)
RF Zak Matiku, PHO - Our first back-to-back winner as Matiku tied with three other players by getting hit 21 times, but his 421 plate appearances was by far the lowest of the group. We're not sure what happened after 2052, but Matiku went from getting beaned six times that year, to 24, 20, and now 21 this season. As mentioned last year he should have been the 2053 winner as well, since he had fewer PA's than Neal that season. Also thanks to all the balls his body took, his OBP of .376 was also the highest of his career. For a guy who was known to be a little injury prone, he's sure done a great job staying healthy after being drilled 65 times over the last three seasons.

Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)
LF Rodrick Madhubuti, PAW - Another back-to-back winner as Madhubuti has become one of the greatest 'all or nothing' players in BLB history. This past season he smacked 50* home runs, while also striking out 257 times...both of those numbers led the BLB. His 39.9 K% was tops in the league, and at 28 years old he might win this award a few more times before his career is over. We stated in our season preview that he might hit .225 with 45 home runs, and we were close as he hit .230 with 50*.

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)
3B Vin Edwards, MAI - Known for his glove and speed, from 2043 to 2054 Edwards hit .307 with 27 HRs and 301 SB. This past season though he went nuts behind the plate as his .371 average was tops in the majors. Not one of his league leading 225 hits though went over the fence, giving Edward this prestigious award. At 35 years old it was quite the revival season as he was selected to his first All-Star game since 2046, and he won his first DWI since 2048.

(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)
P Isaac King, PIT - Apparently Theodore Blume taught King everything he knew on his way out of town, or at least when it comes to beaning opposing players. This year King whacked a league leading 20 batters, while going 12-15 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. When you miss the playoffs for the first time since your rookie year, you might as well take it out on someone.

The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)
LF Roman Toguchi, PHI - Devon Keen has just as much rights to this award again ($14m, -0.4 WAR) but Toguchi made $13.2 million while only appearing in 36 major league games this season. The icing on the cake was that he executed his option year and will now make another $14.7 million next season. From 2048 to 2052 he hit 136 home runs, 20th most in the league during that time. This season in his 36 games he hit four home runs to go along with his .202 average.
