    The Brewski's

The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 17th Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.

    Player of the Year

P Charlie Spence (CAR) - At 26 years old and in the prime of his life, Spence turned in his best season to date last year. In 33 starts he went 21-4 with a 2.51 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 8.6 WAR, and 154 ERA+. Oh yeah he also broke his own single season strikeout record by racking up 365 K's in 233 innings pitched. He was selected to his third straight All-Star game and also won his first Pale Ale. We don't think it will be his last.

1B Parker Lee, WAS - A second round pick in 2048, he exploded on scene at 18 years old when he smashed 49 home runs and drove in 104 runs while playing in the Rookie League. Last season at the age of 25 he one-upped himself as he hit .302 with 50 HR's and 146 RBI's, both which led the league. His 172 OPS+ was the highest of his career, and like Spence he's in the prime of his life.

    Pitcher of the Year

P Bailey Feder, WAS - What's an award show in the BLB without a closer, as Feder is the first winner that didn't start a game all season. Last year in 76 appearances he went 3-7, with 57 saves, a 2.62 ERA, and a 1.03 WHIP. Those 57 saves tied the single season record held by Marco Rosaro, who set it in 2023 with Indianapolis. Feder didn't get called up to the Bats until 2049 when he was 26 years old, but since then he has notched 264 career saves with a 2.72 ERA while helping Washington win three titles.

    Rookie of the Year

P Charles Hofer, IND - No one saw this award coming (not even Indy) as Hofer was 4-4 with a 5.62 ERA and 75 ERA+ in nine AAA starts when he was called up to the Clowns. In 20 regular season starts he then proceeded to go 11-4 with a 1.98 ERA and 210 ERA+, while playing a big part in Indy winning the Ale. He then went 2-1 with a 3.76 ERA in the postseason as the Clowns brought home their first title since 2035. Hofer was a late first round pick in 2051, and struggled right away as he went 0-5 with a 6.23 ERA for Lake Travis (RL) that season. Slowly though he moved his way up the top prospect board, coming in 23rd overall when the 2056 started. He wasn't projected to make his BLB debut when the season began, yet here we are as the 23 year old might be the anchor of the rotation in 2057.

SS Hayden 'Deuce' Cooper, MON - The long time Guide was traded to Dallas in 2053, before coming over to Montreal via free agency after 2054. Known as one of the best fielders in the game, Cooper played games at 1B (4), 2B (37), 3B (47) and SS (22) last season and had 358 total chances. With all those chances he committed zero errors, and even turned in a combined +5.3 ZR in the process.

    Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)

C Doug Day, PIT - This guy was signed cheap by Pittsburgh back in 2052, and has started for the Millers ever since. His arm is above average, but his smarts and experience behind the plate make him one of the best defensive catchers in the game. Last season 81 runners tested him, and 28 of them had to make the long lonely walk back to the dugout, as Day's 34.6 RTO% led the league.

    2030 winner: Micah Gordon, WIL

    Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
    (
Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)

CF Malcolm Peters, BAT - He swiped 38 bases in 43 attempts (88.3%), which gave him the slight edge over Indy's Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman (86.6%). Drafted in the 9th round of the 2045 draft, he has played both left field and center field since his debut in 2051. In his first full season he stole 60 bases, but then injuries to his hamstring (2053), and knee (2054) derailed the speedster. In 2055 he stole 25 bases, and by stealing 38 last season he hopes to see that upward trend continue.

2030 winner: CF Pat Welch, BAT
2031 winner: LF Akiyuki Kimura, MAI

    Ludacris Award
    (
Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

Burgess 'Nuke' Nalivkin, TOR - The 32 year old took a base 23 times thanks to getting hit, which was nothing a little Ibuprofen and cold tub action post-game couldn't fix. He also made his first All-Star game roster as well in 2056, so in the end it was all worth it. During his career he's now been beaned 150 times, which places him 48th all-time. Still a long way though from the great one known as Jaxson Neal. From 2041 to present the 6x All-Star and 2046 Stout Slugger has been whacked 296 times.

2030 winner: 1B Geoff 'Mr. Reliable' Dail, MIA

    Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

2B Johnnie Lease, CAR - We thought that Madhubuti had this award locked up for a while, but Lease came storming out of nowhere. Well not really nowhere as he's a career .163 hitter, but last season he went above and beyond. In 547 PA he struck out 228 times, for a 41.7 SO%. Even Madhubuti, who came in at 39.3%, was shaking his head in awe. To be fair to Lease he is known as a defensive stalwart at second, where his +8.5 ZR was fourth best in the league.

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

Elias 'Clapper' Owen, IND - He's known for his speed and cunning on the basepaths, which have led to him owning the single season record for stolen bases at 115. He's not known though for his power as he has only 13 total home runs in 922 games played. Last season he racked up 192 hits, hitting .314 in the process, but not one of them ever cleared the outfield wall. At 27 years old he already has 513 stolen bases, which puts him 24th all-time. It's hard to steal bases though when you hit home runs, so maybe there is some method to his madness.

2030 winner: 2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, DEN

    Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Bruno Sheline, TOR - The 10th overall pick from 2053 made his rookie debut and started 32 games for the Canadians. In 180 innings pitched he went 7-10 with a 5.50 ERA, while managing to bean 23 opposing batters. He was the only pitcher to go above 20, and considering that he can hit 97 mph on the gun that doesn't sound very fun for the batter on the other side of the ball. He probably would have had more, but he was suspended nine games in late April after inciting a bench clearing brawl thanks to...well...hitting someone.

    2030 winner: Nate Bettis, PHO
    2031 winner: Pat Burgess, PIT

    2052 winner: Cameron Haggard, PHI
    2053 winner: Theodore Blume, PIT
    2054 winner: Theodore Blume, PIT
    2055 winner: Isaac King, PIT

    The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

1B Jett Speer - We hate to do this to our man Jett, but he made $16.8m last season and produced a 0.1 WAR. In 143 games he hit .227/.320/.344 with 11 HRs and 58 RBIs. We would have looked elsewhere, but this was his first season after signing a 4 year/$92.6m extension with the Bulldogs. Come on Jett...you just can't do that. The even badder news (our new word) is that he's going to make $31.6m this upcoming season. Considering his WAR from 2053 on has been 5.3, 4.4, 3.9, and 0.1...well we might have a back to back champ next season.

2030 winner: P Jerrod Blick, TOR
