Inconsistency is the word that is defining the Sharks during the 2047 season, despite the 6-2 at the half and being the #2 seed in the AC there are few things that we must improve if we want to go far in the potential play-off run.
The Good:
The Sharks are ranked #1 in Rushing yards (165.1 avg) and #2 in yards per carry (5.20), we also are the best in the league in 3rd down conversions (44.7) and points per game (31.1)
The backfield duties are being split almost equally by our 3 talented running backs:
Colton Dayes, 2nd Year Pro --> 81 rushes, 404 yards, 4.99 avg, 6 Touchdowns, 10 Catches, 64 yards, 1 Touchdown
Bart Poston, Rookie --> 60 rushes, 275 yards, 4.58 avg, 20 Catches, 192 yards, 2 Touchdowns
Desmond Bullock, 9th year Pro --> The Sharks were looking for a trade partner, but he finally stayed in Ohio for his last season as a Shark, 69 rushes, 399 yards, 5.78 avg, 3 Touchdowns, 16 catches, 92 yards, 1 touchdown.
TE Brendan Wooden is having a career year in average yards per catch (15.76) and leads the team with 4 Touchdowns, along with 457 yards in 29 catches.
Defensively we are ranked Top-5 in yards per carry (3.24), Completions (18.9), total yards (272.6) and 3rd down conversions allowed (22.4).
The Bad:
Inconsistency, the lost games in Huntsville and in Salt Lake City make us a soft team on the road, just taking a very tight game in Phoenix and only dominating PXT so far when we are far from Ohio. We must improve on the road, because we are not likely to finish with the #1 Overall seed and we are fighting with Port City and Portland for the #2 Seed.
To achieve this we must improve the yards per catch as we are just ranked #22 on the league (10.82), we have to tackle better, but our Safety position is not strong enough.
The Ugly:
After an MVP, Offensive player of the year and 1st team all-pro QB Season, Brendan Ciszek is having a down year having just below 60% in completions and under 7 yards average per pass with 15/9 TD to INT ratio and the lowest rating since 2041 (84.5), we must rework the play-book again to get the best from our short QB, we will start including roll-outs, intermediate throws and quick rhythm passes to improve his % and his rating, reducing hopefully the Interception numbers.
Young blood:
How the young players are performing?
1st Round Pick 30 --> ILB Aidan Borders
He has earn the WILB starting job, so far 2.2 PRPct, 11.6 TkPct and 77.0 PDPct. Good numbers and good performance by the young ILB, not the kind of production that you would expect from your 1st Round pick, but he still developing, when is all said and done, we expect him to be an above average ILB with the ability to be crucial in running situations and goal line, he will be able to rush the QB when he is requested to do so. He as accumulated a Sack and 2 Hurries in just 8 games, nothing bad.
2nd Round Pick 1 --> RB Bart Poston
The jewel of the crown, making noise as a Rookie already, he is a Touchdown waiting to happen. In just 60 carries he had already 5 10+ yards runs with a 23 yard scamper as the biggest one. He is a dual thread running back and has 467 All-purpose yards with 2 scores, in a crowded backfield he is learning behind Bullock and Hayes. None the less he is producing 58.4 yards per game. And we expect this number to rocket entering in year 2.
4th Round Pick 8 --> DE T.J. Stith
He only has play 21 pass plays, as a specialist pass rusher he has knocked the QB down 2 times and produced 1 hurry for 14.3 PRPct, he is disrupting the QBs when he has the chance to do so, but in a deep DL rotation, he is too young still to make a real difference.
6th Round Pick 30 --> ILB Bert Harkins
He didn't make the 53 men Roster and now is in Hartford.
Special mention to 2 UDFAs, SS Keegan Fox and FS K.C. Amistad are holding the fort at the safety position posting excellent numbers and helping the Sharks to be one of the best defenses in the OSFL.
