Just something from the old days of OOTP. A successful draft year over year.

%= Makes it at the major league level.

First Round: 100%. Like to get your impact here two out of three years, but MUST contribute to the majors.

Second Round: 75%. Impact from this round one out of every 4 years.

Third/ Fourth Round 50%. Any impact players from here on out is a bonus.

5th thru 10th: 17%. Basically you hope one player in these rounds makes it.

I was going to write up the history of Pawtucket first rounders just haven't had the time. Had some really good hits to along with some horrible ones.

That is BS. I consistently get BLB contributors in 3+ rounds. My first BLB draft was '84. I've have at least 10 players that were drafted in the 4th round or later that are on BLB rosters right now.

    1984 4.BAL:Carlos Pena (MR)-Baltimore
    1984 8.BAL: Jeremiah Alexander (C)-Pawtucket
    1986 5.BAL: Zack Murphy (MR)-Mississippi
1986 7.BAL: Raul Reyes (MR)- Davenport
    1987 7.BAL: Joaquin Martinez (MR/SP)-Maine
1988 4.BAL: Pleun Schuilenberg (MR)- Hyundai
    1988 7.BAL: Dani Salcido (SP)-Baltimore
    1988 9.BAL: Dave Lock (MR)-Dallas
    1990:4.BAL: Don Morgan (OF)-Denver
    1990:5.BAL: Brad Antell (SS)-Baltimore
    1991:5.BAL: Franklin Cruz(MR)-Washington

Those are only the major contributors that have been drafted and that's only Baltimore. There are even more shrewd drafting GM's that I'm sure do better than I do.

You've convinced yourself that the only way to get players is to draft early and often. That's fine, its a strategy that has worked well for you. However, it isn't the only successful way to draft in this league.

    Maine 4th Round Draft Pick

I can't get into the draft room again. Maine selects RF Danny Gonzalez. I have sent a pm to Clay but he's just gone offline.

I'll give you best trading GM. And seriously, you have gotten to where you are by repeatedly raping Pittsburgh for their own guys. Genius.

But drafting well 1-3 is fine. The numbers show that most of us do that relatively well. You've just had more opportunities to do so through shrewd trades. Kudos for that.

However, true drafting ability lies in getting talent in the later rounds.

Say what you will, believe what you need to, a search what you can... but the numbers don't lie.... I have 5 guys on the TOP PLAYERS and 8 GUYS on the BA TOP PROSPECTS that I drafted still with my Organization....plus a smattering of guys I hit that play elsewhere (e.g. Raul Gonzalez in Indy that I took in the 6th Round).

All that being said... in the end it's largely a crap shoot... and as I've said before.... I'm really good at this game.... but I should be because I probably spend more time with it than anyone else in the league. That's not a brag... it's sad really. I run hundreds of Single Player seasons every year just to "study" how the game works.

    Zing!

Not too happy with my draft. Ending up with a lot of the poor man's versions of the guys I really wanted. Last year, I really wanted the guys I ended up drafting in the first five rounds. This year, just settling.

Who needs late? I probably have more quality players from the 2nd than most people have from the 1st. Hitting a 1 in a 1000 10th rounder (though I have hit late ones) is meaningless. Hitting your 1st - 3rds has value. Plus, I've traded away more great players that I've drafted than a lot of people have had period.

I was going to take Zimmerman with my pick if he was there. Easily the best player left, and it would have let me pick 3 players from the same team.

Only reason I didn't pick him to start round was that I didn't really want to pick another catcher, going completely against my usual 'best player available' strategy.

I got Ian Prentice with my most recent pick. Nothing special here. I think he's the best SP still on the board.
