Gugz signs a 2 year extension four weeks before his 41st birthday. No way this dude finishes the contract despite his season. I think I like the idea of this dude in a contract year and will be interested to see the rest of the season. I'm predicting an immediate decline.
Baltimore Bulldogs (53-45, 2GB in Porter, 1 GB in WC)
3-0 v MOR
1-3 @ CAL
-I guess I shouldn't complain about a winning week, but I can't help but think we should have fared better against California. I could see 2-2, but 1-3 is unacceptable against a division rival if we'd like to keep pace in the crowded Porter division.
The Good
-Castor Blaster: I'm guessing Don Castor really liked the new contract. He's signed to stay in Baltimore for at least another 5 years, at a manageable 13 mil per. Since he signed the new contract (7/9/1994), Castor has hit .321 with 6 home runs and 14 RBI in just over 2 weeks. Rookie outfielder and IL ROY candidate, Marv Barnes, must have liked the signing as well. Barnes has also hit .321 over the same span, with 5 home runs and 12 RBI. Kyoden's FUry:Kyoden Kubota must've taken exception to recent comments about being overpaid. In fact, since those comments surfaced near the All-Star break, Kyoden has been nothing short of amazing. During the month of July, Kyoden has hit .351 with an IL leading .478 OBP. Kyoden swears that this recent streak is unrelated to comments made. This week, Kyoden and the Bulldogs host Matt G., the Muckduck's manager who made the comments, and his team this upcoming week.
The Bad
-My Bad- In Game 3 of the 4 game series in California, Baltimore was up 5-2 going into the bottom of the 7th. Promising young reliever, Franklin Martinez, had recently been moved to a setup role due to his reliable play in the first half of the season. Wrong move.
Martinez comes in and walks Hildalgo, allows a single to Farmer, walks Buzzell, walks Jackson, beans Hernandez, and then gives up another single. He is finally snatched out, but the damage is done as another run scoring sacrifice fly is given up following his exit. 7-5 by the end of the 7th and we lose 6-7. He's moved back to just middle relief.
The Ugly
-Loren Wallace cannot right the ship. One week he does well and the next week (this week) he goes 3-28 for the week. No doubles, no triples, no homeruns, no walks and 6 strikeouts. Ouch!
The Week Ahead
-A transaction with Hartford has been finalized to bring Jim Newlin back to Baltimore. Newlin played in Baltimore for 1/2 a season in 1992 before signing a 4 year contract to to move to Hartford. Newlin will play 3rd base and likely start in this week's pivotal inter-division home games against Batavia and Philadelphia.
6-1. Swept the Dukes on a walkoff HR and a walkoff single. Then took 3 of 4 from divisional rival Pawtuckett to open up a 6 game lead in the Ale. I actually watched all seven games this week. Felt like I learned some things from watching situational moves and plays rather than just reading to box score. Collins continues to pitch well from the starting rotaion while Gremmy, Trujillo and Gentry continue to carry this offense. Scott has been fairly quite since coming back from the injury. Hoping he gets back to form for the playoff push.
Anyone else have so many starters that suck they have no idea who should start?
yea same boat. I have two real starters. Carrillo and Fitz. Everyone else started in the pen and had to be moved to the starting rotaion cause the starting rotation was pitching awful. So yea, no idea.

At least you have two solid guys in those two. I have Norm Coleman and Pete Jones leading my team.
