According to OSA on both counts, at least.
At the time both these guys my scout had a 4 for contact POT. I do pay attention to OSA though from round 3 on and its served us well especially in round 3.

Its also sad I remember what my scout thought about them at the time.

I also use to LOVE eye guys cuz there for a period where the feeders weren't producing them, but it seems since the version change thats been corrected.

I understand what you're saying though.

I think it's mostly just a math and psychology thing.

A player's potential isn't likely to improve more than 1, in rarer cases 2, points in any given category.

When a slugger improves from 4 contact to 5, it sticks in your memory because it often means he makes contact often enough now to hit 30-40 home runs. You remember the guy who puts it together and starts bashing home runs.

When a contact hitter improves from 4 power to 5, it isn't nearly as memorable. Maybe he hits 20 home runs instead of 15.

Another aspect is the sample itself.

Like I said, generally a player is fortunate to gain 1 point in a category.

So think about the player pool.

The power guys who need a contact bump almost all have 4 contact to begin with. That's because 3 contact guys aren't usually considered prospects at all, and 2 contact guys are almost never drafted or given an opportunity to play pro ball. So almost all the guys we think of already have 4 contact and that bump up 1 point from 4 to 5 isn't so unlikely.

The pool of contact guys is completely different. Unlike the power guys, who almost always have at least a 4 in contact, the contact guys very frequently have a 3 or even a 2 in power.

So it's much more unlikely that "contact" players develop meaningful power because they need to add 2 or 3 or 4 or even 5 points to their initial power potential, while "power" players usually only need to add 1 point to their initial contact potential.

    I don't think that's dumb at all.

I believe that to be true as well.

My scout didn't even have him in his top 50.
Either he's a genius and saw something in DJ that wasn't good, or he'll be looking for work in the offseason. ;)

    Pawtucket goes with "Dave Walker"

My scout thinks he can pretty good though I view him as no more then a #3 starter eventually.

Were also barren right now in the farm with pitchers. Seems like a good time to start building it back up.

Pawtucket will be making its pick in an hour or two.

Stuck on three pitchers right now and not sure which way to swing.

(Which means I probably end up taking a power hitter)

And with the 13th pick of the draft the Baltimore Bulldogs select:

    D.J. Gosser (1B/DH)
    Oklahoma Sooners

-As a sophomore, D.J. took the college baseball world by storm with an amazing season setting single season batting records in runs (71), total bases (187), home runs (30) and RBI (83) on his way to his first NCAA OH Award in 2012. Gosser, while not nearly as spectacular as a junior, was still good enough in 2013 to repeat as the 2013 award winner.

Fast forward to April 2014, the switch hitting slugger just ended a 21 game hit streak and looks to be a major force for the Sooners again in 2014 and hopefully for the Bulldogs, a few years down the line.
