What I mean by "these guys" is ...

    * Stats are average, at best, maybe even bad.
    * OSA thinks the player is not good. Mostly 4s and 3s.
    * None of the other owners seem to show any interest in the player.
    * Your scout thinks this guy is Babe Ruth. 5/7/8/8/7, or something like it.

I see a couple of these players every year.

I haven't actually drafted one yet.

Usually I figure I'll draft him in the 8th or 9th round. Someone else always takes a flyer on him first.

I follow the players from afar. I haven't seen one turn out to be any good. Usually they don't make it to AA. My scout stops thinking they're any good usually during the first offseason after they're drafted.

Wondering if other owners have this experience, or if they see exceptions.
My thinking was just that he's here in the 7th. There are guys my scout has matched OSA wise, but I know are no more than AAA or AA fodder so why not? I'm guessing one may break through.

Heitmeyer & Kincaid were late rounders my scout loved and so were a couple others I've included in deals. The chances of finding a Goto are probably less than 1% but serviceable role players are possible I think.

Pawtucket drafts a 'Pat Howell' type in 1B/C Tom England. Last 6 pot for power for catchers. See where this goes goes.

Then we drafted a fringe player in SP Dave Calvert based a bit on our scout and partly based on velocity and team leadership.(dreaded 5-5-5 for pot)

It's the start of the 6th round. We're allowed some liberties.

My 5th round pick is coming. Waited all day and then the two hours I wasn't around, it sat on me.

Yeah as an only option I would be for 30 man A rosters.

    Here's a compromise idea.

What if we expanded single-A rosters to 30 players?

It would open up an extra 5 slots on each club for teenage prospects who aren't ready to play every day. They could stay on the roster and get at-bats here and there as they develop.

We'd keep the age cap in place, so it wouldn't contribute much to teams "hoarding" players for years because teams would still have to keep promoting guys as they aged. So it wouldn't be the same as the proposal years ago for adding more AAA roster spots.

Plus, adding roster spots wouldn't create additional work for owners. They wouldn't need to manage another team.

I may be looking at the wrong thing, but if you go to league settings, under rules, there's a setting under roster rules for active roster player age minimum, and a setting for maximum. Wouldn't this work?

Keep in mind I'm looking at a solo league, so maybe it's different in an online league.

OOTP needs that option. Surprised it doesn't exist.

I would be in favor of a rookie league. I would not be in favor of returning to Rule V. Rule 5 is a nightmare and I'm not in favor of bringing it back.

With all the above stated, I would vote no on a rookie league. I don't think we have the commitment to managing the minor league teams across the board GM wise. Missing exports do happen, making age mistakes with A do happen - I just did it for the first time in a long time, and not having enough minor leaguers does happen. It's always going to happen, not because people don't care, but because managing your minors is cumbersome. I love developing players, but I will always side with Matt. We have a lot of busy GMs here right now. Many of them are the older GMs too. I'm one and I know there are others. I think missed exports and roster issues aren't a huge problem right now. However, I think they could be in the future.

Just my opinion. I'm against hoarding like Jimmy stated, but reinstating rule 5 and opening a 20 and under rookie league is not the answer either. Active GMs are going to be hoarders. IMO they are also the most equipped to make vital decisions on young players instead of kicking the can down the road like Prez said.

Ah. It's kind of a simple rule to break, given that you need to keep up on birthdays all year long. What guy is good at that???

A note on this though, for Brad or Matt, can't we just turn on the age restriction for this league in the league rules? That way you guys wouldn't have to check.
