Just reading an article and it shows how out of whack our BLB financials are.... the local Detroit paper is running a series of old articles the last few weeks. The latest was about Kirk Gibson leaving Detroit for the Dodgers in '88.

In the story it mentions the "rich free agent deal" that Gibby signed.... 3 years and $4.5 million. He earned $2.5 million in 1988... the year he won the MVP.

Definitely out of sync for this era but we also have higher budgets.

The good thing is that while the numbers are high for the 80's we don't have inflation. We won't see guys jump to 40 million a year.
