  • 1978 SP 1st Round Draft Class

    1st, 2nd - Judson Gil, Pawtucket
    1st, 3rd - Gil O?Moore, Maine
    1st, 5th - Cade Roberts, California
    1st, 7th - Sadakuno Sakai, Sin City
    1st, 13th - Bill Gillespie, Carolina (from Davenport)
    1st, 14th - Delmar Oyos, Virginia
    1st, 19th - Tessai MacArthur, Washington

    That was a big SP draft, 8 of the first 20 picks were SP. We are going to see these, well most of them as regulars in the BLB probably next season, some this season.

    These guys are the future....
    Wilmington Wildcats- 2057-
    Seattle Pilots- 2017-2041
    Washington Bats - 1979-2013

        Yah it was deep for SP. I got lucky in that draft. I was terrible at the time we drafted so got the 3rd pick, then my team went on a tear and I still ended up making the playoffs.

        Oyos has made it the furthest so far. He's the only one in AAA. OMoore, Roberts, Sakai and Gillespie are in AA. Gill and MacArthur are in A.

          MacArthur is actually in AA.

          5 Starts in A: 1-2, 39.2 IP, 1.82 ERA, .91 WHIP, 39 Ks, 15 BBs, 1CG
          5 Starts in AA: 3-1, 33 IP, 3.00 ERA, .91 WHIP, 22 Ks, 7 BBs, 1CG/SO
          (11 ERs in AA, 7 of which came in one start)

          If he has a few more good starts in AA, he might be in AAA sooner rather than later.

            Ahh. The prospect list must still list him in A because he has more innings there.

              I think he is the next Barry Zito.

              Zito = A left-hander, throws an 86-90 mph four-seam fastball, a changeup, a slider, and curve. 6'4 210lbs.

              MacArthur = A left-hander, throws an 84-86 fastball, changeup, slider, and a knuckle-curve. 6'3 185lbs.

                Yeah, Oyos bypassed AA. I was a little worried about him in AAA this year, but he's fairing well:

                5-3 in 13 starts with a 3.27 ERA

                He'll, most likely, start '81 in AAA as well, but I see him in the bigs before the end of next season. He's only 20.
                The Great One!

                To many rings to count...

                      That's what I'm shooting for with O'Moore as well. I'll probably let him finish this year in AA, move him up to AAA next year and then maybe a September call up if he does well in AAA. He's only 19 right now. If I could have him in my rotation by the time he's 22, I'd be thrilled.

                      I was hoping OOTP would put "college" kids at an advantage, but it seems like the high schoolers have the advantage because they develop at the same speed and can reach the bigs at a younger age.

                              I'm hoping Andrew trades Gil O'Moore to me in a package for one of my OFs. :D
