If we make the decision to expand...say....after the 1981 season/starting play in 1982.... is it possible to set-up 4 AI controlled minor league team at each level that will eventually become the minor league teams for the 4 expansion teams (assuming it's 4)????

You mean set them up before 1981? Yes it would be possible to add unaffiliated minor league teams, but not sure they'd be able to play against our current teams. I'd have to look into it.

Isn't that how real expansion usually happens? Don't the independent farm teams usually start play a season or two early?

I'll play around with it today. I've never set up independent teams so I'm not sure how the AI would stock those teams with players.

Might screw up histories in the league and player histories. I wouldn't do it.

I'm curious to how you guys think we should expand (after the 1981 season!). The in game expansion only allows teams to protect up to 30 players. This doesn't seem like a lot to me, especially if we're expanding by 4 teams at the same time. It seems like all the current teams would lose quite a few players.

30 players in your active roster plus your top prospects. Many will not protect their entire active roster in the hopes that the expansion team would take a guy who isn't worth their contract or other fodder.

This sounds good if available. I don't mind just the 30 either.

With the new financial system, expansion would be a great way for guys in the red to rid themselves of some of those contracts.
