I didn't say there weren't exceptions. Just like there are 4's that can't work over 4.0 innings. Just a general rule for me to experiment. And my pitching staff is loaded with them. Collins and McQueen were both drafted as Closers.

Also, what I have noticed in small sample sizes, if the RP to SP is going to be done, you want the pitcher to have good control. The last thing you need is a guy with "3" or "4" endurance drawing a full count to every other batter. That's why Carlton is so successful, he has great command. OSA has him 6-6-8 (my scout has him I think 5-6-7). He had a start this past sim where he went eight innings and only threw 91 pitches. He even walked three guys in that game, which is very uncommon for him.

I'm happy somebody claimed Lonnie Bolden on waivers- the guy wasn't going anywhere with 1B locked up long term on my squad. I wish him luck in Philly- he could be a nice bench bat.

Yes, every RP takes a hit in stuff when moving to SP, but the game, more specifically, the BLB won't reflect it.

Because we are on the 2-8 scale, remember, those numbers are actually broken down a lot further than that. Example: if your pitcher is showing 5-5-5, if the scale was 200-800, he might be rated 580-550-520. But when he is moved to SP, his stuff rating could drop from 580 all the way to 500 and you wouldn't notice the difference because of our scale.

I think the difference is that for RP it only factors their top 2 pitches in calculating stuff while for SP it uses all their pitches (or at least top 3).

So a RP that has 3 similar pitches probably wouldn't take a hit to stuff when being moved to SP but a RP that has 2 good pitches and 1 bad will probably take a hit.

I have had moderate success with Fritsch 2 years ago and Hanrahan last year. Both guys did run out of juice around mid-August, though.

I have found one exception to the rule on starters... and that's knuckleballers.

There's only like two or three in our universe right now... but when screwing around in testing, as long as a pitcher has a solid knuckleball and decent endurance, they can be effective in the pros as a starter. Of course they need solid ratings, but they do break the mold on three pitch or more starters.
