  • High School/ Prospect/ First Rounder- Does any of this matter?

Since we on a bit of a break decided to see if there are any trends I can find. So did a bit of research on my current team based on draft year, round, High schooler, highest, beginning season OSA ranking.

Start with the starting pitchers:(RP will be excluded)

Players..............- Draft Year- Round -Team- HS? - OSA Top 100

    P Norm Peterson.. - 1982.......- 6th........ -Hynd- N ..- #80
    P Ignado Snchez.. - 1985.......- 1st........ -Wilm- N ..- #10
    P Raul Guzman.... - 1985.......- 9th........ - Phil - Y... - NO
    P Don Richmond.. - 1989.......- 1st......... -LosA- N...- #20
    P Sadao Yoshino... -1984.......- 5th........ -Dall - Y ...- #85
    P Freddie Thompsn -1985.......- 1st........ -SinC- N ...- NO
    P Manny Ocampo...-1986.......- 6th........ -PAW- Y ..- #47

Now the starting lineup:(Inaugural draft not included)

Players..............- Draft Year- Round -Team- HS? - OSA Top 100

    C Teagan Cannell.....- 1982.....- 11th.......-Syrc - N...- #61
    SS Raul Zamora...... - 1982.....- 1st.........-Syrc - N...- # 3
    1B Carmem Chamsa - 1987.....- 1st.........-PAW- N...- # 2
    2B Deron Robinson...- 1989.....- 1st.........-PAW- N...- #42
    3B Victor Gonzalez...- 1982.....- 1st.........-PAW- Y....- # 1
    RF Samuel Helmrich.- 1986.....- 1st.........-PAW- N...- # 5
    CF Murdoch Turcotte.- 1984....- 3rd.........-PAW- N...- NO
    LF Darryl Calhoun.....- 1988....- 5th.........-Dave- N...- NO

So whats this all mean??? Lol, not alot actually. Told ya I was bored.

    Quick Summary

*** First Rounders seem to be EXTREMELY important with everyday starters. Not surprising really, this was just a confirmation.

*** Pitching on the other hand seems to be more random. Plenty of midround picks in the starting rotation.

*** Going to have to rethink to the OSA top 100 on my end. Upon reviewing this, does seem to pop out more regular players than the "non prospects"

    As for the Pawtucket helpers:

    * THANK GOD FOR THE CLASS of 1985!! Even though we drafted none of them 3 of our starting pitching come from there.

    * Kudos to Syracuse for the class of 1982! Had some nice players drafted from on both ends of the draft spectrum.

According to OSA, here are the Top 20 Pitchers in the BLB (not including inaugural draftees) with your parameters. Remember the feeder system began in 1988.

Note Debut OSA ranking is based on the following year's, opening season Top Prospects Ranking.

I think I might try looking at another team say Miss or even Morgantown. This team was awful for so long that most of the players (hitters) on my team were top 10/ 5 guys. Be a little tough to bomb with all these high picks.

        Better yet Washington.

Again, just something to do until the sims start again.(And hundreds of trade scenarios!)

I may go ahead and do a few more teams. Maybe teams with the Top Five All-Time winning percentages or something. Or maybe Championship winning rosters. After I get a couple of things done today, I'll start.

Here are the 1993 Los Alamos Bandits:

With only 3 first rounders (not including inaugural draftees), this is just a well put together team. Lots of good drafting too. You see a bunch of contributors who were mid round picks: McSwain, Caldwell, Dore and Singleton. Also a couple of lower round picks that made the show: Hildalgo and Reed. Very interesting. I'll probably do the 1993 Runners Up next. It also doesn't seem that the Top Prospects debut ranking meant much with this team. Sounds like a decent farm system to me.

Remember that is the OSA "Fuzzy" Top 20. But he's still pretty darn good nonetheless.

Here are your 1993 Indianapolis Clowns:

Wow. If you'd like to talk about an interesting bunch, lets talk about this set of Clowns. As you can see, the Clowns only had two first round draft picks on their 1993 starting roster. Also, either the Clowns are really lucky or have one hell of an eye for talent. I'm going with the latter seeing that they had two starters who went UNDRAFTED!!! That doesn't include Pete Miller who was cut in the minors by Hartford and Rivera who was cut in the minors by Davenport. Adding in a host of shrewd trades, we are looking at a very underrated clown of a GM here.
