  • The 2031 Daily Keg - Week 4

    (AP)

The Batavia Red Jackets for the 1st time in DK history are #1 in the power rankings. After a 5-1 week in which they swept the Baltimore Bulldogs and took two of three from Phoenix the Red Jackets are now one game back in the Stout behind Washington, who also went 5-1. The other side of the pillow though features those Bulldogs and Roadrunners, along with Philly, who all went 1-5 this week. Some team stats of the week: Wilmington with a league best .301 average, Toronto dead last with 14 HR's given up, Pittsburgh getting thrown out in 4 of 6 stolen base attempts, and Denver holding opponents to 36 hits and a 0.86 WHIP.

    Performance of the Week

RF Jaime 'Toro' Rush - On April 29th he had three hits, one home run, scored three times, and drove in six during a 13-6 route of New Orleans. On the season the 26 year old is hitting .370 with 18 RBI's and 12 stolen bases. He also signed a contract extension on May 2nd that will keep him in Wilmington another 8 years and is worth $164.30 million. He'll now be obligated to foot the tab for the next team dinner at Ruth's Chris in downtown Wilmington.

    Injury of the Week

P Jayden 'Bootleg' McCloud - On May 3rd 'Bootleg' came into the game in the 9th and lasted one pitch before tossing his glove angrily to the ground while grimacing and grabbing his lower back. An MRI showed he has a herniated disk, the same one he injured just over a week ago, but this time he will be out for several months. His career 2.86 ERA has made him one of the more dominant relievers over the last decade but his inability to stay healthy has been a major downfall.

    Prospect of the Week

P Norm 'Magic' Brienza - No one in the draft throws harder than this 20 year old who has reached triple digits several times over his career. Unfortunately for 'Magic' many times he doesn't know where that 100 mph pitch is going to end up. He wasn't drafted out of high school and his 9.84 ERA probably means he won't be drafted out of the CCBL, but he's a great teammate and can really throw that speedball buy you and make you look like a fool.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. No one has had a more dominant staff than Santo Domingo this season. On the year their 2.06 ERA is over a point and a half better than the league average and 0.68 better than second place Maine. In the DL they are 1st in starters ERA, bullpen ERA, runs allowed, HR's allowed, strikeouts, and 2nd in hits allowed and opponents average.

    2. Dave Wickline for Pittsburgh led all hitters last week with 5 home runs in 6 games. He was a waiver pickup from Toronto after playing in only four games last year for the Canadians before missing the rest of the 2030 season with a ruptured MCL. This season he started in AAA before Jayden Copeland got suspended for fighting and was sent down to AAA, and Wickline took his spot. Looks like Copeland might have picked the wrong time to charge the mound.

    3. Freedom right fielder Zach Bradley now has two of the top five hitting performances of the season after he cracked three home runs against Windy City on April 30th. Three hits, three home runs, and six runs batted in comes in 5th while his two hit, two home run, four RBI performance on April 24th is ranked 2nd.

    4. There is a pitching duel in the IL between New York's Jamie Pierce and Denver's Manabu Hamada when it comes to winning streaks. Hamada is 4-0 on the season and Pierce is 1-0 but both have won their last 10. Meanwhile in the DL Pat Feeny of Syracuse might have a duel with his GM after starting the season 0-3 and now leading the BLB with an 11 game losing streak.

    5. Robby Dewitt for Maine is having a year. Last year he played in 66 games and hit .248. This year he's played in 20 games and is hitting .421 and leading the BLB. The 25 year old came over from Kansas City in the dispersal draft in December of 2027. Word is he heavily recruited fellow Comet Turell Morris who then signed with Maine in February of 2028. Dewitt played for KC single A team in 2026 and 2027 while Morris was with their AAA team during that time. They become friends and the rest is now Maine and BLB history.

        Great stuff Matt.

Pat Ladd, one of my all-time favorites. Definitely the best "local" player I ever drafted and is probably a HOF if he didn't play in that park. Or if he hadn't been so brittle and put up better post-season numbers.

It's like a second season where what happens in the first season doesn't matter. Couple of dice rolls here and there. Then we crown a champ.
