With another long BLB season underway in California, we take a look back on a minor league season for a system that will hopefully bear some serous fruit in the coming years!
AAA Level - Bakersfield 48 -72 (32 games back of the lead)
AA Level - Sacramento 62-58 (1st, Lost in first round of playoffs)
A Level - Moose Jaw 44-76 (30 games back of the lead)
RL Level - 30-38 (14 games back of the lead)
Top Pitching Prospects
SP Tony Ramos made the jump from AA to the BLB this year, after posting a 0.73 WHIP in AA, and a 0.91 WHIP in AAA. The former IMLFA acquired from Baltimore in the Redding trade, pitched In 89 innings, where he posted a very respectable 3.81 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP in 17 starts at the BLB Level.
SP Jayden Adams also made the jump to the BLB, although he continued to show flashes, he mostly a pedestrian 5.23 ERA and a respectable 1.34 WHIP at the BLB Level.
RP Quincy Swaney had a fabulous 2033 season, that was unfortunately derailed by a season ending injury this sim. After posting a 4.10 ERA and a 1.37 ERA in AAA, he proceeded to dominate his first BLB stretch by posting a minuscule 0.43 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in his first 21 innings of BLB action.
Players That Appear to be Ready
LF Deonte Perry made the jump to the BLB in June after being acquired from Hartford in the Figueroa deal. The former 8th overall pick is currently slashing 0.321/0.392/0.526 with an OPS+ of 142. He appears destined to be the starting LF in California next season.
LF Norm Cupp made the jump to the BLB in June after being acquired from Montreal in the Riley Thomas deal. The former 22nd overall pick put up solid numbers in AAA and is showing some , but is still acclimating to life in the BLB, although his 9 home runs look to be a good sign that he may have the power to stay at the big league level in a corner spot for California next season.
Players That are Getting Close
LF Alex Lezama followed up a string A season last year, with an even better season in AA this year. The former 19th overall pick acquired in the Solorio trade from Hartford put up a full season of 0.301/0.354/0.445 while learning to play all three outfield spots will see Lezama start next season in AAA, and hopefully be ready for the BLB when August rolls around.
C Jimmy Wellborn was promoted to AAA late in the season after mashing 0.296 with an OPS+ of 136 in AA. He faired respectably in his short callup to AAA, and begins next season as the starter with an outshot shot of making the Kodiaks in Spring Training.
1B Ed King continues to slowly develop. The former 4th overall pick continues his steady climb through the minor league system after posting four straight year of an OPS+ greater than 100 at A and AA. He will start next year at AAA, and will hopefully see the BLB the following season.
This Year's Drafted Players to be Excited About
2B Brendan Santoro struggled early in Rookie League action, but finished strong to the tune of 0.291/0.244/0.377 and OPS+ of 101. The 2nd overall pick will begin next season as the starting second basemen for the Moose Jaw Moose in A ball.
3B Logan Jacobi came flying out of the gate in Rookie League. The #3 overall pick mashed 17 doubles to go with an OPS+ of 132 while playing elite defence at 3B. He will join Santoro next year in anchoring the Moose Jaw Moose lineup.
RF Brevin Guo showed great flashes of power after getting drafted 30th overall. His average was suspect, but he finished the Rookie League season with 11 doubles, 10 home runs, and an OPS+ of 112.
Two Players That are Moving Slowly
RF Adam Watson continues to develop very slowly. The former #2 overall pick had a difficult time adjusting in A ball, and will likely see a return to A ball to start next year as well.
1B Drew Ansell continues to develop even more slowly. The former #10 overall pick in the same draft as Watson, also struggled mightily in A ball, and will begin another year in that level as well.
