  • The 2037 Daily Keg - Week 10

    06/15/2037

    (AP)

California goes 4-2 but finds themselves back in the top spot after last weeks #1 Windy City goes 3-3 and #2 Washington goes 2-4. The top weeks though were Seattle, Wilmington, Phoenix and LAD who all went 5-1. Every one of those teams is now above .500. The worst week belonged to Syracuse as they went 0-6 and are now 19-46 on the year. They had some company though as Maine, Baltimore, Miami, and New Orleans all went 1-5.

    Performance of the Week

P Rory Piechowski - The 31 year old who was drafted by the Batavia Riders back in 2023 hasn't had much success over his career but on June 8th he shut down Baltimore with an 8.2 inning outing where he allowed one hit and struck out 10. With two outs in the top of the 9th he had a no hitter going but Jon Santiago broke it up with a 2-0 single. Piechowski was removed from the game to a standing ovation and reliever Tom King got the final out a batter later.

    Injury of the Week

P Jordan Agar - The IAFA from the Cook Islands spent the last four seasons in AAA but finally got a chance in the BLB again this year. After going 2-2 with a 2.81 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 21 games he came in during the June 8th game against Maine, threw four straight balls, and promptly left with shoulder pain. He was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff and will miss the rest of the season.

    Prospect of the Week

P Tyler Girard - After winning the 2036 A The Herbert Outstanding Pitcher Award he started the year in AA and so far is 1-1 with 8 saves, a 0.98 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 16 games this season. Discovered out of Haiti by Syracuse scouts in 2032 he throws in the triple digits and scouts believe he can be a possible future #1 starter in the BLB.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Congrats to the Texas A&M Aggies who won the College World Series this past week by defeating the Miami Hurricanes 7-5 in the deciding game. MVP of the series was LF James 'Wacky' Vandehey who was recently selected by the Maine Guides with the 5th overall pick of this years draft. In the Aggies twelve playoff games he hit .348/.474/.587 with 2 HR's, 12 RBI's and 13 runs scored.

    2. More congrats to LF Dusty Janson who hit his 300th career home run on June 10th against the New York Knights. Drafted with the 8th overall pick of the 2023 draft by Denver he played eight seasons with the BC before being traded to Baltimore in 2032. He became a free agent this past winter and signed with Santo Domingo on a two year deal worth $19 million a season. He is a two time All-Star and in 2031 was the IL Divisional and LCS MVP. Known also for his glove he is one of the top outfielders in the league and since he debuted in 2025 his +75.4 ZR is 11th overall during that time frame. Over that same period can you name any of the top five though?

    Spoiler

    3. After playing four games a week for the past six weeks each Rookie League team has a slate of six games this week...a week in what could be the last for more than a few players. The recently drafted players will be reporting for duty this Tuesday and the hopes and dreams of many might come to an end. So far in the RL the Atlantic City Gamblers (SYR) have the best record at 19-7 while the Jefferson A's (HAR) are bringing up the rear at 6-20.

    4. Wilmington has won five in a row and DH Manny Quezeda is a big reason why they are now second in the Ale. Last season after becoming a free agent he was signed by Wilmington to that big five year deal and several GM's privately wondered why. He was a huge surprise though and made the DK several times as he ended up hitting .249/.390/.538 with 44 HR's, 98 RBI's and 37 SB's. It was by far his best season since his 2033 Stout Slugger winning year for Phoenix. This season he's only done better as he's hitting .312/.429/.636 and is on pace for 51 HR's and 137 RBI's. He was a 5th round pick in 2026 after playing at Oregon State where he was an NCAA All-Star.

    5. Montreal leads the top system rankings by a large margin with 204 points as California, Seattle, Denver, and New Orleans round out the top five. The bottom of the barrel is Hartford who currently sits at zero points. They are 38-26 and have the second best record in the DL though so I'm sure they aren't too upset.

It looks like that Rory Elia really slacked off as a 21 year old!

    Good read, as always, Matt!

I may have to make some changes based on the DK. My scout likes Girard as a future reliever, so I was thinking closer. I guess I need to give him a look as a SP. Thanks DK!

Legend has it, this is the last homerun Mel Woodbury hit at 39.

Morris really ruining it for everyone. Just wiping the age boards.

Good trivia question. Brooksher is probably the only player I would have guessed. Melendez was so good defensively. Underrated for the Freedom too.
