  • The 2037 Daily Keg - Week 14

    07/13/2037

    (AP)

With everyone playing six the Batavia Red Jackets are the winner of the week as they go 6-0 with sweeps of Indy and Syracuse. They now trail Carolina by a half game for second in Stout and are three games behind division leading Washington. Other big weeks were LAD and NO who each went 5-1. The Dinos are now one game back from California for the Bock lead while the Voodoo just keep winning after trading away Jimmy Jeffs and Brendan Matson a few weeks ago. Meanwhile Syracuse broke their losing streak as they beat Windy City on July 8th, but they still ended up 1-5 on the week and have now lost 43 out of their last 45 games. They did do better than Denver though who went 0-6. The BC are the Snappers only threat for next years first overall pick in the draft. The good news for Denver fans is that the BC are trending up while the poor Snappers are free-falling down. Let the battle for the first pick begin.

    Performance of the Week
LF Charles Farris - The 26 year old was the 21st overall pick in the 2031 draft and is entering his fourth season with the Pilots. He's struggled the first half of the year but on June 6th in an 11-1 victory over Maine he had four hits, two home runs, drove in five, and scored three times. Last season he won the Designated Driver in left field and Seattle is hoping this gets him back on track.

    Injury of the Week
P Ed 'Superman' Tesluk - The defending champs have been injury free up to this point but eventually their luck had to run out. This week it was Ed Tesluk who on July 7th had to leave the game against Wilmington and was diagnosed with forearm tendinitis and will be out of action for a month. Recently demoted from closer to setup sources tell us that California management is not 100% on board with his diagnosis and are hoping this isn't the start of a clubhouse issue.

    Prospect of the Week
LF Curtis Noworyta - He's absolutely crushing it in AAA this season...again...as he is hitting .320/.430/.609 with 16 HR's and 50 RBI's in 66 games. This is the 24 year olds fourth season in AAA and many are wondering if he is ever going to get a shot at the show. Toronto though is loaded, and young, and at 49-42 aren't looking to break in a rookie when a playoff spot is on the line.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Manny Quezada continues to put on a show for Wilmington. Last week he added another four home runs and seven RBI's to his now league leading 31 HR's and 81 RBI's. If he keeps this pace up the second half of the season he should win the DL Stout Slugger, which would give him that award in both leagues. Who else in BLB history has won the Stout Slugger in both leagues with different teams?

    Spoiler

    2. Ethan Jackson's agent has reported that he is available for trade and seeking a new team. The Phoenix closer was drafted by New York back in 2023, played for the Knights for six seasons, and in 2029 helped win a Brewmasters and was named the IL Last Call award winner. He signed in 2031 as a free agent with the Roadrunners and over the course of the last two seasons hasn't blown a save in 44 chances. The tipping point came though on July 30th when he came in against LAD to close out the 8th. In the 9th he trotted back out with Phoenix down 1-0 and proceeded to give up five hits, walk six, and allow nine runs before he was finally pulled from the game. Locker room sources say he was furious at manager Dave Young after the game and the two haven't been on speaking terms since.

    3. Congrats to Ian 'Pickles' James who got his 2000th career hit on July 6th against Indy. He was 2-5 with five RBI's in a 13-3 victory that saw two Racers pitchers have to leave with injuries. The first overall pick of the 2023 draft has been nothing less than spectacular during his 14 year career that features thirteen All-Star games (we're giving him the nod this season based on voting), twelve Designated Drivers at catcher, and three Stout Sluggers. At 35 years old he's 9th in hits and 5th in both home runs and RBI's among active players. He's also third all-time in WAR for catchers and 18th overall.

    4. The Import League currently has seven teams with 50 or more victories and if New York can win a game before the ASG the IL will be up to eight. Two of those teams won't be going to the postseason. The Knights are 49-42 and their playoff odds currently sit at 6.9%. The 49-42 Canadians in the Domestic sit at 90.3%. Tough crowd in the IL to say the least. We're excited to see how the second half shakes out.

    5. The All-Stars of the BLB will be announced tomorrow and immediately head south for the 2037 All-Star game. The leading vote getters are Rory Elia in the IL and Elmer 'Bane' Caceres in the DL. Here is the official BLB All-Star logo which is currently selling on merchandise throughout the world. The BLB graphics department has really upped their game lately.
