Pawtucket wins all with a 5-2 week by winning two of three against Syracuse and three of four against Toronto. The Patriots are now 38-42 and in 3rd place in the Ale. Meanwhile six teams went 4-2 while three went 4-3. In bottom of the rainbow news the Carolina Tobs, who are still champions, went 1-5 after getting swept by California and losing two of three to Philadelphia. Management states that the clubhouse music has become a huge distraction as several players have begun to fight over the genre played before games. Hopefully manager Shane Blaskovich can tighten the reigns a little and bring some harmony to the team.

Performance of the Week
2B Ian Melnik - On 6/21 against Miami the 26 year old second basemen had four hits, two home runs, drove in four, and scored three times in a 6-2 Racers victory. On the season Melnik is hitting .350/.384/.553 with 14 HR's and 45 RBI's in 79 games. The 5th overall pick in the 2029 draft is a two time All-Star and is regarded as a leader in the clubhouse.
Injury of the Week
1B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa - The 34 year old came up lame on June 21st running out an infield single and had to leave the game. He was later diagnosed with a strained hamstring and will be out for several weeks. The 10th overall pick of the 2024 draft is on his fifth BLB team (Denver, California, Hartford, Windy City, Philadelphia) and is hitting .310/.346/.488 this season. He is the all-time leader in triples with 152 and is a three time All-Star.
Prospect of the Week
P Carter Tellez - In March while pitching at LSU the 20 year old tore his labrum, the second time in his career, and is expected to miss over a year of action. Not good for anyone much less for Carter who was entering the 2038 draft. Toronto took a flier on him though and drafted him in the 4th round. Tellez then premiered at #48 on the top prospects list as scouts love his potential. Can he reach them though with several devastating shoulder injuries? Only time will tell.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. After two more fights two weeks ago the commissioners office sent out a strongly worded letter suggesting that future suspensions would be dealt with quickly and harshly. When California and New York squared off on June 20th it was the seventh brawl of the season and 14th ejection due to fisticuffs. Referencing such things as the integrity of the league and tarnishing the shield the BLB has now successfully gone one week since its last skirmish.
2. Two streaks we have going are Richie 'Powder' van Luik's 23 game hitting streak and Ethan Jackson's 75 game save streak. Powder was a scouting discovery out of the Netherlands back in 2031 and is on pace to get his first All-Star nod this season. He's hitting .379/.435/.549 with 27 RBI's and 32 SB's. At 22 years old he has captain potential in the clubhouse and can field as well as anyone in right. Jackson was a second round pick back in 2023 by New York and is now only one game from tying Ivan Olivo for second all-time, and three away from tying Hall of Fame closer Jon Cleary for first.
3. Indianapolis is in second place in the Lager at 46-33. Carolina is in second place in the Stout at 44-34. Los Angeles is in second place in the Bock at 43-35. Meanwhile Pittsburgh is in second place in the Ale at 38-40. At this rate the DL playoff picture will be five teams from the Lager and Hartford. Every division has their ups and downs as the Ale had four .500+ teams in 2034 and three 90+ win teams in 2035. The glory days appear to be over for now and shifted to the Bock which currently has five teams above .500.
4. Windy City is 42-37 this season and their pitching has been off the charts. They currently have a six man starting lineup with only four pitchers in the bullpen. Both the starters and bullpen have the #1 ERA in the league and as a team are they are first in runs allowed, hits allowed, and home runs allowed. I guess when you trot our Barton Mejia once a week you are bound to be good. The 25 year old is 11-0 with a 1.96 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in 15 starts. He's on pace for a 9.2 WAR which would put him in the top 25 all-time for a single season.
5. California hosts Seattle this week for a big three game series. Two weeks ago the Kodiaks got swept by the Pilots and there was a sense of despair around the California organization. Since then though they have gone 7-3 and the GM has vowed to just "let it ride" the rest of the year. With one of the most talented teams in the league and 84 games left their playoff odds are near 70%. The IL wildcard race is going to be wild though as currently six teams are separated by four games.
