  • The 2051 Daily Keg - Week 7

    05/29/2051

Last night, with President Kanye West's first record College Dropout blaring in the background of the locker room, the Denver Bulls celebrated their 6-4 win over New York. This was the Bulls ninth win in eleven games and capped off a six for seven week. The Bulls now find themselves 24-21, but still in fourth place in the Bock. Other top weeks were Maine and California, who went 5-1, and New Orleans and Hartford who went 5-2. Some not so top weeks were Syracuse and Windy City who went 1-6, and Montreal who went 1-5. The Exports do lead the league though for next years first overall pick...so that is something for the fans to get excited about!

    Performance of the Week

1B Zander Howard - The career long Tob is only 29 years old and has turned into just another slugger in a long line of Carolina hitters. This past week on May 23rd against New York he turned in the #2 overall performance of the season when he smacked three home runs and drove in five during a 7-2 Tobs victory. On the season Howard is hitting .282/.333/.580 with 13 HR and 38 RBI in only 45 games. He's on pace to hit 47 HR and drive in 137 runs on the season, which would be career highs. He missed most of last season after tearing his meniscus, but apparently the doctors did a really good job fixing it.

    Prospect of the Week

Colton Coffin - The 16 year old led the Titans to the HS Championship and was named MVP of the series after hitting an absurd .625 with 4 HR and 9 RBI in only two games. On the season he hit .386/.477/.867 with 23 HR and 62 RBI in only 40 games. He led the league in home runs and was second in runs batted in. The 2x All-Star is also favored to win the NCAA Outstanding Hitter Award which will be announced June 3rd.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The Patriots no longer look like they are in a class by themselves as the California Kodiaks have slowly crept into their rear view mirror. This month the Kodiaks are 18-7, have taken a three game lead in the Bock, and currently sit at 30-15. They are first in the Import in average, OBP, and SLG while being tied for second in runs scored. Outfielder Reilly Wren leads the league in average, while outfielder Dwight Bell leads the league in home runs. They also have the fifth best ranked farm system. Looks like everything is coming up roses in California.

    2. As mentioned above the Northwestern Titans beat Bishop Gorman to claim their first ever high school championship. They won the first game 4-2, before Coffin put the nail in the Gamblers during game two with two first inning home runs on his way to the hat trick. Final score, 20-6. In the Cape Cod League the Hyannis Harbor Hawks beat the Harwich Mariners two games to one. After winning the first game 21-5 they lost the second 10-4, before winning the title with a 5-4 victory two nights later. Finally in the NCAA the Oklahoma Sooners beat Arizona two games to none, with the combined score being 14-1. The Sooners were an even .500 on the season before putting together a miracle run that gave them their fourth NCAA title.

    3. Congrats to 38 year old Elmer 'Bane' Caceres who racked up his 2500th career hit on May 27th against Toronto. The 8x All-Star and 2041 Stout Slugger is the 46th player to reach the milestone after being the 5th overall pick of the 2033 draft by New Orleans. Since then he has played for California, Washington, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Denver, and now Wilmington.

    4. Last week K.J. Avery was traded from Carolina to Los Angeles. The career .216 batter, who this season is hitting .156, was promptly signed to a 5 year/$78,000,000 extension. It wasn't his bat the Dinos were after though as Avery is one of, if not the best defensive centerfielder in the game. He's won five DWI's in the last six seasons, and was a 2x All-Star just based on his glove. He rarely gets hurt, he stole 65 bases last year, and he has some pop in his bat when he can actually get it on the ball. Many point to the Dinos recent turnaround and success due to their analytics department, led by Dr. Mush E. Room, and this looks like more of the same.

    5. What's on tap? The rivalry is back on this week as the Washington Bats travel to face the California Kodiaks. The Bats went 18-3 against the Kodiaks during the playoffs throughout the 2040's and no one can seem to forget it, much less the Cali GM. This will be the first match-up of the season as the teams will do battle 11 times before the regular season is over. Currently they are both first in their respective divisions and we'd love nothing more than to see some playoff magic between them once again. Another great series is the Miami Sharks at the Seattle Pilots. Both these teams are second in their divisions (behind the aforementioned series participants) and it will also be their first meeting of the year. Last season Batavia won it all, then moved the entire organization down south during the off-season. Different name, same team as they are 26-20 and have a top ten farm system. Streak wise the Snappers have lost six straight, while the Whalers and Voodoo have won five in a row.
