  • The 2054 Daily Keg - Week 7

    05/25/2054

All is right again as the Wildcats are back on top even after a 4-3 week. They are now 16-6 in the Month of May and have built a 4.5 game lead in the Lager. The top weeks though belonged to LAD and Baltimore who each went 6-1. Carolina and Pawtucket were right behind them at 5-2, while Indy went 4-2 to maintain their lead in the Ale. On the other side of life the Freedom had the upside-down unicorn as they went 0-7, and have now lost 10 straight. Better days are ahead...just not this season Freedom fans.

    Performance of the Week

P Jannero Peter - The first no-no of the year belongs to Peter who was untouchable against Denver on May 20th. Over the course of the game he struck out 10, walked only two, and allowed no hits and no runs in a 1-0 victory. Last years Pale Ale winner started out rough but he's turning things around, and so are the Bulldogs. Did we mention we at the DK always thought they'd be a playoff contender?

    Prospect of the Week

RF Jared Rosewall - Last years ninth overall pick is tearing it up for the Oysters in the Rookie League while only being 18 years old. So far in 29 games he's hitting .309/.400/.702 with 10 HRs and 25 RBIs while posting a 168 OPS+. He was a 4x High School All-Star and was the 2052 HS Outstanding Hitter.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The Baltimore/Denver four game series started out rough for the Bulldogs and ended up a debacle for the Bulls. In game one Denver had twelve hits and eight runs to get the win. For the next three games Denver had seven hits and no runs, including the no hitter discussed above. Denver is still playing well though and are 25-21 overall, which is good enough for the fifth in the Brutal Bock. Just think, if they were in the Ale they would be only a game out of first.

    2. On May 19th Carolina and Washington played a seven hour and twenty three minute game that didn't end until 2:30 AM the following morning. There was a total of 31 hits, 42 left on base, and 13 total pitchers used. Washington scored a run in the first inning, then didn't score again until the 15th inning. Tied 3-3 in the top of the 20th, Carolina catcher Obie Biggs hit a single that scored Zander Howard. Parker Lee hit a single to start the bottom of the 20th, but Dale Charlesworth was able to get the next three batters out to secure the victory.

    3. Los Angeles has gone the way of defense and running. They lead the league with a +22.10 ZR, and they lead the league with a +10.23 wSB. On the base paths they have swiped 88 bases in 98 attempts, as their 89.8% success rate is first. They've also drawn 172 walks, first as well. On the other end of the spectrum is Philly with a -18.81 ZR, and Pawtucket with a -6.06 wSB.

    4. It was a week for firsts...well first home runs that is...as the following players got their first BLB round-tripper: LF Andy Wulfeck (LAD), 22 yo 1B Bonzi Mendoza (BAT), 26 yo 1B Glendon Gillberry (NO), 25 yo SS Vance Thompson (WIL), 26 yo LF Tommy Tuten (CHI), 22 yo 3B Rykeem Potts (CAR), 21 yo LF Damon Casebier (SDR), 21 yo, and LF Sherman Primes (CAR), 21 yo.

    5. What's on tap? This week we get a little Ale fun as the Clowns and Whalers kick off a three game series today. Indy is 26-20 and leads the Ale, while Hartford is 23-22 and is in third place. If the Clowns can find some pitching they could be really dangerous this year. They are first in the Domestic in OBP, OBS, runs scored, and walks. Sadly they are 10th in hits allowed and 7th in runs allowed. Meanwhile Hartford is also all in on offense as they are first in batting average, third in runs scored, and third in hits. Meanwhile they are ninth in ERA and eight in runs allowed. We might get some football scores in this one. Streak wise LAD has won six straight, Pawtucket has won four straight, Philly has lost 10 straight, Dalton Hamilton (NYC) has a 13 game hitting streak going, and Julian Irwin (CAL) has homered in three straight games.
