    The Brewski's

The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 18th Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.

    Player of the Year

LF Cade McCormick - The Seattle slugger is 23 years old and finally put it all together this season. After hitting .200 with 21 HR and 65 RBI last season, he hit .309/.410/.662 with 42 HR and 116 RBI this season, while posting a league high 183 OPS+. When you have an OPS+ that is 21 points higher than second place it was quite a season to say the least. Originally drafted 15th overall by the Pilots in 2051 out of high school, he made his big league debut at just 19 and has already played three full season for Seattle. Looks like this young fella is about to get paid.

    Hitter of the Year

LF Stan Sikes - The youth movement is alive and well in the BLB as Sikes is just 24 years old, and like McCormick was also a first round pick in 2051. This season he saw his batting average from last season shoot up 30 points, while his slugging percentage went up a ridiculous 152 points. He hit .293/.347/.630, and his 51 home runs were nine more than second place McCormick. He's also only the third player in the league to hit 50+ home runs since 2046.

    Pitcher of the Year

P Cayden Wittmeyer - The Pilots definitely won the post-season awards as Wittmeyer put up career highs in wins, ERA, WHIP, ERA+, and WAR. Finishing the year 18-7 with a 2.17 ERA, his 185 ERA+ was 28 points higher than Reid Rothstein who came in second. The 32 year old also took home his first career Pale Ale, and went to his third All-Star game. All he needs now is a Brew to cement his legacy as one of the best pitchers of the last decade.

    2030 winner: Manabu Hamada, DEN

2056 winner: P Bailey Feder, WAS

    Rookie of the Year

3B Dorsey Cahue, WIL - Some might argue that teammate, and Brew MVP, Evan Yanko deserves this award. It's a good argument, but in the end we went with Cahue. The 21 year old went from A ball last season to playing in 136 games for the champions this year. During those games he hit .303/.336/.493 with 15 HR and 52 RBI, while starting in the field at second, third, and short. He's also turned into a fan favorite and should be a Wildcat for a long, long time.

2030 winner: 1B Pat Walton, HAR
2031 winner: 2B Alex Arana, SDR
2032 winner: 1B Dave Perry, PIT

    Ford Raptor Award
(Given to the player with the highest PwrSpd value)

3B Jerry 'Snake Hips' Coleman, IND - The 30 year old shows no signs of slowing down as his 44.2 PwrSpd rating was best in the league, and tied for 8th best all-time. Over 148 games 'Snake Hips' hit .294/.351/.528 with 31 HR, 103 RBI, 77 SB, and a league high 7.0 WAR. He won the Stout Slugger in 2055, helped Indy win the Brew last season, and finished second in the Stout Slugger this season. Not a bad three year run to say the least.

    New Award

    All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily first base)

CF Jaret Foley, WAS - Don't let the uniform fool you, Foley was a Washington Bat last season and started 144 games for them in center field. Coming over from Dallas at the end of 2056, Foley moved right into the starting lineup and never looked back. When you have 371 total chances in the field and record zero errors, while posting an +11.6 ZR you are probably a shoo-in to take this award home. He also went from making $4.75m in 2056, to $6.95m this year, to $19m next season. See kids, getting paid isn't just about the long ball.

2030 winner: RF Dusty Janson, DEN
2031 winner: LF Jamie Hendon, NY
2032 winner: CF Gil Banda, SEA

2053 winner: CF Erick Hartman, BAL
2054 winner: CF Jaret Foley, DAL
2055 winner: CF Tom Holderness, IND
2056 winner: SS Hayden 'Deuce' Cooper, MON

    Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)

C Isaac Merolla, SEA - In 76 games behind the plate, 86 runners tried to steal on Merolla and 31 of them had to trot back to the dugout with everyone looking. His 36% RTO was good enough for this award, and was a relief to Seattle pitchers when runners got on base. The interesting thing about Merolla was that he spent all of last season in AAA, and prior to this year he had only played in 102 BLB games since his debut in 2051.

    2030 winner: Micah Gordon, WIL
2031 winner: Ian 'Pickles' James, SDR
    2032 winner: Landon McClelland, PHI

2055 winner: Lindsay 'Oil Can' Einaudi, IND
2056 winner: C Doug Day, PIT

    Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
    (
Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)

CF Raymond Crisp, DAL - We haven't seen numbers like this in a long time as Crisp stole 49 bases in 52 attempts, and his 94.2% success rate led the league. Considering he's only 24, and hit .298, he could go shooting up the career steal leaders board over the next decade or so. A second round pick in 2054 out of Arizona, Crisp is just another in what seems like a long line of very good players under the age of 25.

2030 winner: CF Pat Welch, BAT
2031 winner: LF Akiyuki Kimura, MAI
2032 winner: RF R.J. Kapper, PIT

2056 winner: CF Malcolm Peters, BAT

    Ludacris Award
    (
Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

1B Frank 'Slugger' Memmi, CAL - The slugger from Italy signed a huge contract in the off-season and came to America to play for the Kodiaks. He did crush 36 home runs, but he also struck out 237 times and hit .229/.336/.465. Doing everything he could to justify his $126m contract, 'Slugger' decided to try the crowd the plate approach, after his GM not so subtly suggested it. It was a bold strategy, but it paid off as he got beaned 25 times and lead the league in that category. He's also the new spokesperson for Advil and reportedly wants to return home to Mantova.

2030 winner: 1B Geoff 'Mr. Reliable' Dail, MIA

2056 winner: 1B Burgess 'Nuke' Nalivkin

    Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

3B Jaden Goodridge, PHI - In the field no one is better when it comes to arm strength, the ability to turn two, and not committing errors. Behind the plate no one is better than striking out, as Goodridge had 483 at bats and struck out a league high 36.7% of the time. He only had 87 hits on the season, and 46 of them were either a double or home run. Meanwhile in his 483 at bats he struck out a whopping 202 times.

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

2B James 'Turf' Goebel, DEN - Sporting his fanciest suit and tie, the 32 year old 'Turf' is now a free agent hoping to catch on with another club. This past season in Denver he hit .293 and racked up 131 hits, but alas none of them cleared the outfield wall. In fact since 2053, Goebel has played in 661 games while only hitting one home run. Sadly his best days of fielding are behind him, and a first basemen without power isn't much of a sought after commodity. He might want to let his agent know that his $14m asking price is out of the park, or the opposite of what he does behind the plate.

2030 winner: 2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, DEN
2031 winner: 2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, DEN

2056 winner: SS Elias 'Clapper' Owen, IND

    Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Chase Vaughan, CAR - The fan favorite goes by 'Wild Thing', which actually makes a lot of sense now since he did bean 20 batters last season. The 27 year old is a hard throwing strikeout machine, but alas even the best laid plans (and pitches) often go astray. This season though he was 14-11, with a 3.80 ERA and 105 ERA+, and has settled nicely into the second fiddle spot behind Spence. That is a lot more than can be said for the opposing batters, who never seem to get the chance to settle down behind the plate.

    2030 winner: Nate Bettis, PHO
    2031 winner: Pat Burgess, PIT
2032 winner: Robby 'Bruiser' McEvoy, BAL

    2055 winner: Isaac King, PIT
    2056 winner: Bruno Sheline, TOR

    The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

P Cyril Castellon, CAL - Don't look now, but last years winner, Jett Speer, turned it around in Baltimore. The 34 year old hit .244/.341/.454 with 31 HR, 89 RBI, and a 3.0 WAR. Can Castellon do the same next season? To be fair anything is better than this year. In August of 2056, the 33 year old tore his UCL in his throwing elbow. He was able to rehab and made his 2057 debut in May. He then proceeded to start 11 games before straining his hamstring in July and missing the rest of the year. His record for those 11 games...0-6 with a 6.89 ERA and 58 ERA+. His salary for those 11 games...$17,000,000. Not bad work if you can find it.
