  • The 2059 Daily Keg - Week 13

    06/30/2059

It was the week of the Candians as they went 6-1 thanks to beating up Pittsburgh and Santo Domingo. With a sweep of the Rum Runners, and taking three of four against the Millers, Toronto is now 11 games over .500 and only 5.5 back from Wilmington in the Lager. The other top week was California who went 5-1 thanks to a sweep of the first place Pilots. The Kodiaks have now cut Seattle's lead down to 6.5 games as these two have one more three-game series remaining this season. On the flip side Syracuse went 1-5, while Denver went 2-5.

    Performance of the Week

P Cedric 'Ape' Erickson - We have a new #1 as Erickson turned in a gem two days ago to hand California their only loss of the week. In a complete game shut-out he allowed just five hits, walked one, and struck out 15. The 2050 third round pick is just 26 years old, and is 8-3 with a 2.76 ERA and 136 ERA+ on the season.

    Prospect of the Week

C Steven Hall - The Windy City catcher was their first pick of the 2058 draft, and the 21 year old is already in AAA. So far in 51 games he's smacking .335/.401/.576 with 9 HR and 31 RBI. He was recently selected to the AAA All-Star game, and scouts think he has the potential to be an impact big league catcher. About time the league saw some offensive catchers again!

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Where have you gone Neall Rabah, our nation's capital turns its lonely eyes to you...woo, woo, woo. The 34 year old is struggling this season, and even though he's hit 18 out of the park, his .247 average is the lowest of his career. As Rabah goes, so does the Bat's offense apparently. In the Import they are 11th in hits, but 1st in home runs. If they could only get some more men on base before those home runs they wouldn't be 40-38 and 14 games back in the Stout. The last time the Bats finished fourth in the Stout was 2033, and they've finished first the last eight season in a row. It also doesn't help that their pitching staff has an average age of 31.15 years, the oldest in the league. If the playoffs started today, the Bats and Roadrunners would be playing for the final Wildcard spot. That's just unheard of for Washington fans.

    2. On the other end of the spectrum is the Cyclones pitching staff. Let's look at their top five. First we have 24 year old Alex Landrum who was a 3rd round pick in 2052. Then we have 26 year old Oscar Dudzik who was a 9th round pick in 2050. Next up is 26 year old Erickson who was a 2050 3rd round pick. Then we have 'gramps' as they call him, 35 year old Parker Lord who was a 2nd round pick in 2041. Finally is 26 year old Theodore Stocker, who was a 2nd round pick in 2050. Those five are 36-25 this season and are second in the Import in ERA. Also it appears that 2050 was a big year for New York's scouting department.

    3. The All-Star game voting is coming to an end and it looks like it's going to be Wilmington, Toronto, and Montreal against the Import. Out of the eight fielders in the Domestic, Pittsburgh's outfielder Byron Carlton is the only non Wildcat, Canadian, or Export. The starting lineup would currently be C Al Bush (Mon), 1B James Munsie (Wil), 2B Vince Cox (Wil), 3B Henry Miller (Mon), SS Max Johnson (Mon), LF Chase Calhoun (Tor), and CF Brian Wheat (TOR).

    4. We jinxed Connor Cook (SEA) as he picked up his first loss since April 10th, his first game of the season. Since that time he'd won an amazing 12 out of 13 starts, with one no-decision. Time to see who's up next for the DK Jinx...uh oh. The leader now is Seattle starter B.B. Trynkov, who has won eight straight decisions and hasn't lost since April 30th. Those two combined this season are a ridiculous 22-4 after going 22-21 last season.

    5. What's on tap? How about the battle of the bigs as Seattle travels to take on Baltimore in a four game series. The match-up is tied at two so far this season, with just three more to play after this week. Even after struggling last week, Seattle is still 17-10 for the month of June. Those are rookie numbers though for the Bulldogs who are 21-6, their second straight 20 win month. Nobody is playing better than Baltimore this season, as they are 1st in the Import in AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS, R, XBH, and SB. Throw in a pitching staff that is second in runs allowed and no wonder they lead the league with a 55-25 record.
