Sweet Carolina...good times never seemed so good. The Tobs go 5-1 this past week to give themselves a 2.5 game lead in the Stout. After going 10-16 in July, the GM had a few locker room tirades and the club responded. They went 18-11 last month, and are now 4-1 in September. Meanwhile Toronto, Bataiva, Dallas, Cali, Maine, LAD and Baltimore all go 4-2. In the perfect bell curve seven teams also went 2-4, while Denver went 1-5. Some team leaders since everyone played six: Dallas scored 41 runs (IND 17), Dallas hit 16 home runs (PIT 3), Toronto swiped 16 bases, Dallas hit .310 (WC .196). On the mound Baltimore allowed just 11 runs (WC 38), Baltimore allowed just 1 home run (WC 16), and opponents hit .170 off Bulldog pitchers (NYC .297). So basically hats off to Dallas and Baltimore.

Performance of the Week

LF Trent West - All though the Patriots are out of it, West is playing like the professional he is. On September 3rd against New York he smoked three home runs and drove in all six runs as the Patriots won 6-1 on the day. With Pawtucket trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, West hit a changeup from Javis Navarro for a 3-run home run. It was his 33rd home run of the season and put the Patriots ahead for good. "I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said West.
Prospect of the Week

P Lewis 'Agony' Coleman - The kid is only 17, but we might change our stance on TINSTAAPP. In 10 starts this year for Arizona he was 4-3 with a 1.95 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 264 ERA+. He has a wicket cutter, can already throw 94 mph, and scouts think he's the second coming of somebody who won a lot of Pale Ale's (Ed 'Dropkick' Carroll).
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The month of August is done as the dog days of summer are over. There was some dog in the Exports last month though as they went a league’s best 21-9. Wilmington went 19-11, and Santo Domingo went 19-9, so unfortunately Montreal made up almost no ground and would be on the road in the Wild Card if the playoffs started today. Sometimes life just isn't fair, and it really isn't fair in the Lager this season. Behind those three New Orleans, California, and Washington all went 18-10. Don't talk about fair with the Voodoo, the Bats are back over .500 and climbing (and have not had one major league injury all season), while the Kodiaks have all but guaranteed their fifth straight trip to the playoffs after a one year rebuild in 2060. On the other end of the charts the Bulldogs went 10-19 as their GM is already on vacation overseas in Thailand.
2. Should we just skip to the postseason as the playoffs are already set, at least team-wise. In the Domestic it will be Hartford, SDR, Dallas, Wilmington, Montreal, and New Orleans, with the Lager still up for grabs between the Rum Runners, Drillers, and Wildcats. In the Import it will be Carolina, Washington, LAD, Windy City, California and Seattle. With both divisions still undecided, that will be the excitement down the stretch, as all six teams still have a legit change to secure a first-round bye. We do have a little excitement for the last place team as well. Currently Phoenix, Maine, and New York are battling for the right to the top pick in next years draft. Our friends at Stats+ have the Roadrunners slightly ahead with a 43.9% to Maine's 37.7%.
3. Vince 'Mungo' Tanner now has 40 home runs on the season and should start making room for the Domestic New Brew trophy coming his way. Wait, not so fast my friend. We're being told that James Polly of New Orleans and Logan Kennedy of Wilmington are in serious contention as well. Stat wise Kennedy is hitting .316/.375/.511 with 19 HR, 60 RBI, and a 3.7 WAR. Polly is hitting .318/.366/.589 with 22 HR, 63 RBI, and a 3.7 WAR. Meanwhile Tanner is hitting .2258/.328/.551 with 40 HR and 86 RBI while putting up a 3.2 WAR. Well at least in the Import it seems settled. Washington outfielder Alec Echard has exceeded all expectations with a slash line of .300/.385/.523 with 21 HR, 60 RBI, 31 SB, and a 5.2 WAR. The rest of the league calls that a superstar in the making, while the Bats just call it "another 5th round pick."
4. Nothing used to get the DK excited like the 40/40 club, but we struggled to even get someone in the 30/30 club this season. The only member as of now is Tobs star Evan Olsen, who has 30 home runs and 37 stolen bases. The only real hope we have to join him is in Philly's Walter Muller, who is sitting at 34 home runs and 27 stolen bases, and Windy City's Ezekiel Wolfson, who has 26 home runs and 37 stolen bases. Muller's on pace to go 40/31 while Wolfson is on pace to go 30/43. There are a few more that might get close if they get hot hitting, but that's it. Where have you gone Zeke Lebron, the DK misses you.
