The Brewski's
The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 24th Brewski's award show. The selection committee has 'poured' over last season stats and excitedly announces the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.
Player of the Year

CF Brian Van Hook, PAW - Back to back Brewski's for Van Hook, who has established himself as one of the best players the league has seen in a long time. This past season he hit .333/.371/.634 with 36 HR, 107 RBI, and 15 stolen bases while tallying up a 163 OPS+, 16.9 zone rating in center field, and 9.3 WAR. There is literally nothing he can't do. At just 24 years old he's already on pace or ahead of the likes of BLB Hall of Fame players such as CJ Stripling, Dylan Owens, Joey Robertson, and Robby Brooksher. Van Hook was second overall in average while coming in first in slugging, runs created, wOBA, OPS, and WAR.

Hitter of the Year

1B Isaac Rampone, SDR - We could give this award to Van Hook (we literally just copied this from last season), but we don't want his head to get too big. Instead we'll go with Rampone, who was the only player in the league to hit over 50 home runs, as his 53 was the most since JD 'Hurricane' Rice hit 59 in 2043. The 25 year old put up a .605 slugging percentage, a career high for him, and now has 158 total home runs in just four seasons.

Pitcher of the Year

P Brad Zook, MON - He finished first in the league in wins, ERA, HR/9, and WAR as his 2065 campaign was one of the most dominating we've seen compared to everyone else in a long time. With an ERA+ of 201, he finished nearly 50 points higher than runner-up Grant Henry from Windy City. All in all Zook was 20-5 with a 2.16 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 201 ERA+ and 6.8 WAR over 200.0 innings on the season.

Rookie of the Year

LF Vince 'Mungo' Tanner, DAL- Our estrogen is running high because "chicks love the long ball" and so does the DK. Even though Tanner was outpaced by Alec Echard and Logan Kennedy, 'Mungo' hit .252 and smashed 48 home runs on the year. He struck out a lot, but when he got a hit it had a 33% chance of going yard. When you're guaranteed to go deep 33% of the time...100% of the time...you take those odds every time.

Ford Raptor Award
(Given to the player with the highest PwrSpd value)

LF Evan Olsen, CAR - His final tally of 32 home runs and 41 stolen bases gave Olsen a PwrSpd value of 35.9, which was enough to get by Isaac Pack and his 35.3 rating. He was also the only member of the 30/30 club this season. Philly's Walter Muller finished with 38 home runs, but just 29 stolen bases. At just 25, Olsen has put up a 29.0 WAR in his five seasons in the league while hitting 137 home runs and stealing 158 bases. Carolina sure loves their Evan's.

All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily C/1B)

RF Nathaniel Lockman, DEN - This season he started 51 games in right, 31 games in center, and 11 games in left field. Over that time he had 200 total chances, and didn't record a single error. With a +6.2 ZR across all three, there wasn't anyone else who had more chances who was perfect on the year. Last season he committed five errors in just 48 AA games, now here he is. Who would have thought? Not us.

Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 50 attempts)

C Adrian Harrison, DAL - The rookie only played in 74 games but threw out 29 out of 66 base runners for a leagues best 43.9 RTO%. The only other player to get above 40% was Wilmington's Chandler Frazee, who is considered by many the best defensive catcher in baseball. For now Harrison is second fiddle to David Mitchell, and with Mitchell having three more years on his contract it will probably stay that way for a while. He just turned 24 though, so he has time. That is until he's in his 40's, realizes half his life is over, and can't believe 2065 was over 20 years ago. Just wait kid, you'll see.

Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
(Given to the player who stole at least 35 bases and was caught the least)

2B Ben Piche, SYC - We had to double check this one as Piche swiped 49 bases this season, in 51 attempts! Last season he was thrown out 18 times, while being gunned down 17 times the year before. Now the guy is stealing bases at a 96% success rate. He was actually 49 for 50, but got thrown out the second to last game of the season against Hartford by a guy who has trouble throwing it back to the pitcher. What a loser. (Checks program and sees Piche is 6'3, 205 lbs, and jacked). Heck of a year Ben!

Ludacris Award
(Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

LF Jordy 'Smug' Wovchanoff, LAD - Well the nickname checks out. Jordy is a fan favorite in LA, loved by all, and known for his work ethic and intelligence throughout the organization. Unfortunately he's earned that nickname by tormenting opposing teams on and off the field. He paid the price though as he got beaned an unheard of 26 times this past season, the second most in a season since 2050. Number one belongs to Isaac Pack who was beaned 27 times in 2062. Sadly for us, but happily for Pack, he just couldn't pull off the four-peat as 'Smug' takes the crown.

Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

1B Ari Lynn, DAL - The 24 year old slugger had two things on his mind when he came up to bat. Hit the ball deep, or hit the ball deep (we copied that from last season too). In 634 plate appearances he struck out 224 times, for a 35.3 K%. He was closely followed by the above mentioned Vince Tanner, who was right behind him at 32%. Combined those two smashed 99 home runs on the season, while striking out 428 times.

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

SS Brendan Hamman, WAS - In his first full season Hamman played in 117 games and started 103 at short stop. During that time he racked up 86 hits, but never got one over the fence. He now has an even 100 hits for his career, but an even 0 in the HR column. At just 24 he's become one of the best defenders in all the league, and believe it or not a captain for the Bats, but power isn't one of his strengths.

Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Shane Hellman, TOR - When asked about Hellman constantly squinting while on the mound, Toronto manager Tom Dingman was quoted as saying, "I just thought he was concentrating really hard." Once more we took that from last season, but it's one of our favorites. And with Hellman beaning a league leading 22 opposing hitters, it's only fitting once more. This season though was completely opposite of last year. Literally. Hellman went from 8-17 to 17-8 while posting a 3.15 ERA, 136 ERA+, and scaring the 'Hell' out of opposing batters. When a sidearm pitcher throws 98 mph it's best to be on his good side, and with Hellman anyone not wearing a Toronto uniform is not on his good side.

The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

2B Fred Etheridge, NYC - We partially blame the manager, but when you make $18,000,000 can't you do better than hit .206 while putting up a -15.6 ZR at second base? He has one more year on his contract, and we think if NY would let him play first, or even third, he would be a much better hitter. What made it even worse is that Grady Williams put up a -22.6 ZR at short stop. What made it even worse worse was that Danrad Orozco put up a -23.4 ZR at center. Rory Vest, what were you thinking? To be fair to Vest it was his first ever losing season as either manager or bench coach in New York. Hopefully he learns and gets the Cyclones back to the postseason once again.
