We're playing for a chance at a first round playoff bye, and possible home field throughout this week. But since we've already lost to both Yuma and Columbus, the first seems unlikely and the second damn near impossible. Still, not about to pack up the starters and take the week off. Brooklyn is still a division rival, and must smash puny division rivals. If we win this week, we win the NC East by something like 9 games. That's just sick.
A couple more reasons to go all out this week. All of them involving Burt Newman. He only needs 151 yards from scrimmage to break Kenyon Helfin's 10 year old season record there. He's averaging over 160 per game, so he has a shot. With 2045 rushing yards, Newman needs 159 more to break Cris Gardner's single season rushing record. That's quite a bit higher than his 136 yards per game average, but he's done it 5 times this season most recently, last week. And with 19 rushing TDs he needs only 2 more to break A.J. McGee's single season record there. Newman has also punched it into the end zone at least twice per game 5 times this season, and once again most recently just last week.
Standing in his way is Brooklyn's dynamic DT duo of Glenn Covington and Kelvin Blake. Earlier this year Brooklyn held Newman to just 109 yards from scrimmage, but he did get 2 TDs.
