  • The league's top RBs

I thought this would be an interesting topic for discussion. Feel free to pimp your own players.

Who are the best RBs in the league today? You know, the guys that are going in the top 5 of the OSFL fantasy football drafts.

sidebar // this will also let me live vicariously through you guys who have RBs worth talking about

I think St. Paul's D-Schaub has to be up there. And there's this rookie - not the one who went #1, but the one who went #12, I think. Pasricha, is it?

      In no particular order.

Issac Staat (SMD) - Most in need of a human owner

Staat is averaging 4.90 yards per carry, but he has seen his number of carries drop every year since his sophomore outing. Still he finds other ways to get yards. He is averaging 7.17 yards per pass target, leads all RBs in receptions and receiving yards (has every year since 2017) and is second in the league in yards from scrimmage. As disappointing as his low number of rushing attempts is the real tragedy is that he's been benched as a punt and kick returner. Last year he led the league with a staggering 222.5 all purpose yards per game (second best season ever).

Rufus Glover (BKL) - Most improved running back

Overshadowed thus far in his career by the 3 running backs taken before him in the 2018 draft, #20 overall pick Glover has finally had his breakout year. After coming up just short of 1000 yards last year, Glover currently sits 3rd in the league in rushing yards, and 4th in Yards from Scrimmage (after averaging just 85.5 yards per game last year). He has also scored 10 TDs, more than triple the number he managed in his first two seasons combined.

Randal Gellar (LVS) - Most valuable running back

With all due respect to A.J. McGee, no team in the league has thier fortunes more closely tied to the production of their running back than Las Vegas. After having not posted a winning record since 2015, the Outlaws shocked the league and jumped out to a 6-2 start over the first half of the season. After those first 8 games Gellar led the league in rushing with 214 carries for 1020 yards a 4.77 yard average and 6 TDs. In the 7 games since then he has managed 115 carries, 457 yards, a 3.97 average and 2 TDs. Las Vegas has lost all 7 games. Gellar's second half collapse is even more shocking when you notice that 161 of those yards and both TDs came in one game.

A.J. McGee (WAS) - Most disapointing running back

Don't get me wrong McGee is having what for most backs would be a pretty good year, especially considering he was hurt at the beginning of the season. But coming off a 2019 campaign where he lead the league in rushing and set a new single season record for rushing TDs, 2020 has been a let down. A.J. McGee was probably the first RB taken in any OSFL fantasy draft this year (22 TDs!), and that just makes him all the more disappointing. Special runner up spots to San Francisco's Kendrick Rose for getting hurt in the preseason and missing the whole damn year and Waco's Buddy Pritchard for somehow being taken with the #1 overall pick.

Cris Gardner (MTC) - Most legendary running back

After barely managing 1000 rushing yards last year and just a hair over 4 YPC, it looked like Cris Gardner was nearing the end of his glorious career. But the chase to become the OSFL's all time leading rushier has energized the 2 time MVP and Gardner has bounced back to find himself a respectable 4th in rushing yards. Not only has Gardner blown past Cedric Pint to become the league's leading rusher, he's also topped future hall of famer Lawrence Ingram to become the league's all time leader in yards from scrimmage. And as well as he's playing, it looks like Gardner is going to put both records comfortably out of reach.

Corwin Blades (LAC) - Most under appreciated running back

This former Offensive Rookie of the Year has never rushed for less than 1000 yards in a season, but has only lead the league in rushing once. Blades is averaging 4.66 yards per carry for his career and currently sits 4th in rushing yards among active players, but his career falls between the cracks of the great Garnder/Canada debate the year before he was drafted and current crop of stud running backs starting with Staat and McGee in 2016. Corwin Blades has appeared in 3 times as many playoff games Cris Gardner, but Lake County is and always has been Nick Pipkin's team.

Antonio Pasricha (CHA) - Most impressive rookie running back

The above mentioned Pritchard made headlines by being drafted a surprise #1 overall, Pasricha stole those headlines by scoring a rookie record 19 TDs in just 15 games. Pasricha has scored rushing touchdowns. Pasricha has scored receiving touchdowns. Pasricha has scored special teams touchdowns. Pasricha has even scored fumble recovery touchdowns. His official home town is San Antonio, but his adopted home town is the end zone.

nice Rando...well thought out there. Nailed it on Blades, he has always been second fiddle to Pipkin, but he has done great filling the shoes of Estell the long time LAC RB from the OSFL early years.. before we became playoff chokers.

My list in no real particular order:

        McGee
        Gardner
        Gellar
        Staat
Newman (have to have the season leader on the list)

What happened to Canada anyways? The last 3 seasons he has been under 1000 yards...I guess Gardner supporters won huh?

As soon as I can get a better offensive line around him I think you'll see McCumber climbing up the list.

            Excellent assessment.

I'm 100% to blame for Gardner's last season. I had kind of lost interest in the OSFL a little last year after some drama over a FA signing. I didn't pay enough attention to my team and game-planning. Came back this season and, despite fighting an uphill battle, definitely making an effort to use Gardner properly (as much as one can control that).

I know the glory days are gone... but this run has been nice.

Yeah, it's definitely a bit of a dropoff for McGee this year, but how could it not be. :) But between the early injury and my getting all excited about having good WRs, he was underutilized (even at 350+ something touches, 12+ TDs...)

That was awesome, rando. I laughed at the AJ McGee award

And oh yeah, I forgot about McCumber. How could I?

Clay, was there drama over that signing? I hope it wasn't anything I said, but I'm glad you are back!

Burt Newman looks like an alltime OSFL lock. If this were real life he would just about be worn out though. Most backs who have big seasons see a huge drop off in the next. Curious to see how long his run lasts. I doubt the game has a built in season endurance penalties.

I don't know much, but we have to be near the bottom of quality backs.
