So with the season basically over and free agency just over the horizon, I wondered if there are any rules us new guys should know about contracts (franchise tags, renegotiations, free agent contracts etc).

These are the only two I know of (and they both date back to two commissioners ago, so they may need reviewing):
Originally posted by aholbert View PostWeve had more than a week's worth of discussion and so I'm going to make a ruling. Starting the beginning of next season, renegotiations will only be allowed with player's in the last year of their contracts.
We will use the honor code to monitor this rule meaning that I will trust each owner to abide by this rule. I will occasionally check to see that people are following the rule. For the first and second violation of the rule, the owner will be given a warning and the contract will be voided. On the third violation, the contract will be voided and the commisioner has the option to take a draft pick. On the fourth violation, a draft pick will be taken and the commissioner will consider removing the owner from the league.
Originally posted by aholbert View PostLast season, we discussed ways to lessen the effect of the big one year contracts. We kicked around alot of ideas and in the end decided to do something. The final rule I decided upon was to eliminate 1 or 2 yr offers from any FA on the Grey Sheet (the top 75 FAs) unless they request one.
Ive thought about that and realized that because of the lack of time I have to observe the league it would be a little easier for me if we tweak the rule a little. The new rule is this:
For every FA on the Grey Sheet, an owner must at least offer the number of years demanded by the player. This rule stays in effect until the second stage of FA has ended. This rule does not apply to players not on the Grey Sheet or RFA.
Ex. This means if a player is demanding a 4 yr contract, an owner must at least offer a 4 yr deal or more.
I will post a list of every Grey Sheet FA on Thursday night with the number of years they are demanding.
There are penalties that will be assessed if someone fails to follow the rules. If an owner offers a GS FA a contract for less years than he requests, I will ask the owner to withdraw the offer before the next sim and give him a warning. If an player signs the contract before the owner is able to withdraw the offer, I will immedaiately release the player from the team and the owner will have to take the cap hit associated with the release. If an owner continues to break this rule, he faces possible removal of draft picks.
This is a pretty easy rule to follow. If you are bidding on a FA on the Grey Sheet, do not remove any years from his requested contract. If you see a fellow owner breaking the rule, please contact me by pm.
Let me know if you have any questions.Philly Freedom

one other thing its kind of been unspoken but if you have a hold out who has more than 1 year, as kind of a gentelmans agreement, weve been ok with a re-negotiation in that situation.
i dont know if this should be added as an "official" rule
