  • 2022 Retirements

    Some notable ones...

Nick Pipkin - last man standing from the Allocation draft. What a career.
Cris Gardner - legendary RB who went out in style

We lost nobody, which is a relief, as we were worried about our ex-Yuma center Dominic Galloway, coming off a severe injury. A couple ones of interest to us, though, as our former QB Aaron Barrett retired after a playoff release from the Totems.

    Oh, and Paul Marchion!

He shall haunt me no longer. What an outstanding player he was for rando, though.

He started to the end. 16 games started in each of the last six seasons. 269 games in all. Ironman.

Nori, yikes. Good thing you have the #2 pick and hopefully a nice QB to choose from! It is eerily similar to the Peyton Manning situation. So, Nori busts up his achilles tendon in his ankle, sits out a year, can still sense the rush in the pocket and scramble just as well as he did before, but forgot all about how to pass in the meantime.

Guess he didn't take those mental reps! Z, when you comin' back to us?

I'm really shocked Rico Whalen didn't hang up his cleats after this season. I guess he wants a shot at 500 TD's.

Our punter, Mel Baker, retired which will leave a pretty big hole in our special teams unit. He was still under contract so I thought he'd come back for another year. He was really good in 2022 (48.9/yds per punt | 41.0 net | 28 IN20). He was never quite on Johnnie Goldhammer's level, but wasn't too far behind. It was a real safety net to have a guy that could flip field position at crucial times. He will be missed.

Looks like the top half of Nori retired. Be realllllllly interesting to see what his demands are and if they're met...

I'm very surprised WR Feigenbaum didn't retire on me...glad he didn't, but very surprised.

Lost a couple of guys that should be easy to replace though.

Fitting that they all go out together.

CB Ronald Hoover, TE Ben Schneider, and WR Paul Marchion represented rounds 1, 2 and 3 our 2018 draft. I traded for them knowing I'd likely only get a few years out of each of them and have to say I was surprised when those “few years” turned into five. And a pretty good 5 years at that with a 66-14 regular season record and a title.

Of the three Schneider had the biggest immediate impact, leading our team in receiving his first two years here. But by the end he had been supplanted by Vernon Ogden as our #1 TE, seeing most of his action when Ogden was hurt. Hoover gave us 5 years of very solid, but never quite spectacular service at LCB. He never managed more than 5 INTs in a season, but his average PD% while here was a more than respectable 84.4. Marchion saved his best for last, becoming the first WR in Camden to break 1000 yards since I took full time control of the team and racking up a career best Yards per Target, Yards per Kickoff Return as well as receiving and return TDs in 2023. Even his last play as a Cutter was a memorable, if bittersweet, one. Fighting for extra yards as the clock expires in a blowout loss Dakota in the playoffs, and he fumbles the ball. Time to hang 'em up old man, you've done all you can.

The only other news out of Camden so far this offseason, Bryan “All or nothing, but mostly nothing” Fields has taken over as our new RB position leader (the only reason I hadn't cut his inconsistent ass yet) meaning that former leader Harris Paulfer, formerly the league's most valuable 3/3 rated FB, is out of a job.

Wow... I got so tied up in Gardner hanging them up... didn't realize Marc Sutter and Otis Heney hung them up as well.

MARC SUTTER (OG) -- A third round pick in 2011, Sutter started all of his Team Record 188 games in a Mechanics' uniform. Leaves the game as, arguably, the best "pulling" Guard in league history leading the way for the All-Time Rushing King. He retires with the career record in Key Run Blocks (426) and Opportunities (1125). He also finished 4th on the All-Time list in Pancakes (2nd among G's). Marc Sutter deserves serious Hall of Fame consideration.
