: FA contracts of less than 3 years are allowed during Free Agency 1.1 through 1.12 if the average annual value (AAV) of the deal is less than $5mil.

Simple enough. Want to offer a 2 yr deal to an aging QB to be your backup? 2yrs/$8mil = good (AAV = 4). 2yrs/$12mil = no good (AAV = 6). 1yr/$5mil = good. 1yr/$7mil = no good. Simple math.

Good reminder about the rule change. Let's roll with it.

Yes, or to put it another way:

-1 yr deals are allowed as long as total comp doesn't exceed $5mil
-2 yr deals are allowed as long as total comp doesn't exceed $10mil
-3+ yr deals, business as usual

So, less than or equal to (<=) 5 million per year.

(I guess I assumed that anyway. It makes sense.)

(I put in deals that were right at the "equal to" mark. I hope that others didn't assume that 4.99 and 9.98 were the maximum numbers, because I would feel very bad for signing any free agent on such a technicality.)

I can't wait to find out who the FAs think is more of a winner, me or Columbus ;)

Nemesis and I have an interesting identical offer put out to a guy we are both marginally interested in, and likes winning. We're both rolling the red carpet out, let's see which team puts on the more swindling show.

Neither, we both suck apparently. :)

After last season's playoffs, no free agent believes we can ever win a game again. And to be honest, I'm not sure we can either
