They couldn't be more wrong about that, IMO. Chicago looks like one of the more intimidating rosters in the league right now.

We've won 10 in a row vs Boston, with our last loss to them coming in the form of a Wild Card playoff upset in 2017. We've also won our last 5 season openers, once again with our last loss coming in 2017 and once again to Boston. But a season ending loss to South Maryland last year with the #2 seed on the line serves as a reminder that we can no longer simply chalk up our 6 division games as W's at the start of each season. Still a loss to Boston here would have to be considered a major upset, especially when you consider that on their last two trips into Camden the Irish failed to even score a single point.
Our QB will be playing this game with Significant off season rust, but that didn't seem to slow him down the last two season openers. What may slow him down is the loss of last year's leading reciever, his 1000 yards and 11 TDs. We failed to sign anyone to fill the hole left by Marchion's retirement and there doesn't look to be anyone on our team who can step up to fill those shoes. Baumgartner also lost his Exceptional Affinity when Brian Fields became our new RB leader as well as roughly 1/4 of his starting RB, Burt Newman.
The reigning League MVP went from being rated 71/71 by our scout at the end of last year to 66/66 at the start of this off season and then 58/58 after training camp (he drops a further 5 points on a cut test). I had joked last year that, after coming off his worst year as a pro, perhaps I should start looking for his replacement. Looks like that will be a priority next off season.
On defense, we rebuilt our secondary (1 returning starter) and added the highest rated defensive FA available, OLB Robert Jamison. Jamison will let us move Terry Dunlap over to WLB full time which will hopefully revive a pass rush that once consitantly lead the leauge, but vanished last year as old age caught up with former Defensive Player of the Year Trent Woodfield.
It will be interesting to see if our retooled defense can over come a lack of cohesion and carry this team back to the playoffs. Also wondering just how good Casey Baumgartner is with no one to throw to and no magic chemistry inflating his play. And we will need to see just what Burt Newman still has left (although it is pretty safe to say that his career average of 2000 yards per season will be coming down this year).
Is it Sunday yet?Last edited by rando; 03-17-2012, 09:11 PM.

I'd love to offer this up as evidence of my amazing FOF abilities, but for most of this run I've been playing AI run teams and absentee owners. Outside of Camden the NC East was usually a wasteland of Rex'd game plans, dubious draft picks and gross salary cap mismanagement.
A former owner asked me once in a PM what the secret to my success was. The secret is I've been playing almost half my games single player. Of course that was then.
Boston failed to reach .500 last year, but they have managed to win more games over the last two seasons than they had players under contract when Mike17 took over the team. And that's with Cary Money under center.
Mrkordell's Hitmen improved their win total by 5 last year. They have the NC East's best offensive line and RB Rufus Glover came up with his second 1500 yard season in the last 3 years (bad news for us, we've always sucked against the run).
But the team that worries me this year is South Maryland. They finished last in the division last year at 6-10 but two of those wins were against the last two Steven's Cup winners (they also took the winner from 3 seasons ago down to overtime). They have the best defensive front four in the league and the NC East's best secondary. Then you throw in a couple of very good draft choices, a trade for that desperately needed other weapon on offense not to mention a couple extra first rounders the next few years and things start to get very ugly (for us).Last edited by rando; 03-18-2012, 01:13 AM.
