  • Ok... so now what?

I see my roster. I see pretty much everything I need to see. So what are the next steps? Total newb, have no idea what to do. Although I am happy to see I'm up there in the power rankings.

      defensive alignment changes

Go to the far lright clipboard up at the top and about 3/4 of the way down you'll find the selection entitled

      Game Plan Miscellaneous Settings

      it's right above the

      Basic Defensive Game Plan place

Get a really big DT and lots of rangy linebackers.

Start planning on who is going to be a starter. Start working on your gameplan(s). Look at your team schedule to see when your first exhibition game is. Once you have everything how you want it set, you'll want to create your next export to send to the commish.

So the 1 export function is all we need? I notice we can save offensive and defensive gameplans... do we export those as well?

Yes, the 1 export function is all you need. That exports your depth charts, your gameplan (both offensive and defensive) as well as any roster moves you are attempting to make.

The save and loading buttons of the offensive and defensive gameplans are to save them on your local computer so that you can quickly load them again to use in a particular week. My personal philosophy is to create 3 defensive gameplans - one for a run heavy team, one for a more balanced team, and one for a pass happy team. I save them each and then depending upon the opponent, I'll load the appropriate one and tweak it a bit and go with it. I'll also create, save, and load a few different offensive gameplans and use one each week depending upon the opponent. So, with some time put in on the front end, I have a much smaller amount of work to do on a week to week basis to get my exports set.

Do we have to gameplan for the preseason to sub in back ups or will that happen automatically?

I think you can just edit the starters playing % to take care of this.

I was wondering that as well.

Is it best to set our starters to low playing time so their subbed during preseason games, or how does that work?

Just as an update, I'll be posting a preseason sim schedule and some league rules tonight. The first sim will cover the midweek turn prior to the first exhibition games. This will give everyone a chance to make cuts, make trades, and pick up free agents.

So the general idea here is that you'll make whatever transactions you want and send me an export. I'll run the first midweek turn, your cuts/trades/signings will be processed, and then you'll all download new league files. Then whoever is playing in the first week (just me and Phoenix, apparently) will need to get their depth charts and gameplans set. Then we'll sim the first week's games, you'll download new league files, and repeat. Everyone who isn't me and Phoenix has until the 2nd exhibition week to finalize their depth charts and gameplans for their first game.

So midweek turn, game sim, midweek turn, game sim, etc etc. I'll make a more detailed post from home later this evening, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up as to where we're headed.

You can handle this several different ways, but I just set my starters time to a very low percentage unless it is a young guy who I want to get more experience. If I have a veteran QB as my starter, I usually set his time to "1" or "2".

'Tis better to lose in preseason and save the starters than win and lose them for the regular season. Although, I do play the last game of the preseason like it's a regular game, just to see how the gameplan works.

You never know when you'll find a player that just jumps out at you!

Does the coding allow FAs (a la Fast Willie Parker) or late round WR (Colston) become stud?

                              Yep

When I inherited the Invaders in the DFL, the last six draft picks from the season before went unsigned, so I was already behind the eight ball with the team before I did anything but claim them. They never had a winning season as the Smokers. I went after a bunch of FA's just to round out the team and have some pretty good players now. Look at the sig below to find out how well they do.

I don't have--at least not yet--any players on the all star roster, but as a team, we kick ass.
