Longtime Dakota LB and Super Bowl hero, Orlando Sampson, hangs it up, as does my second MP draft pick ever, Kenneth Riley and annual overachiever DE Vincent Schroeder. In addition, Arnie "The One That Got Away" Hutchins retires after notching up a ton of sacks for Yuma.

Ron Dabbs has finally called it quits. That might shake up the backfield a little, since he was granting affinity to my RBs.

Nobody retired from my team, and more importantly(for now), nobody dropped in the offseason, hopefully they survive TC as well.

No retirements in Utah, which leaves some burning questions about how to treat two of the stars of our 4-year bowl run.

Also, I suppose I'll go ahead and do my annual practice of eventually re-signing now-12th year OG Greg Bell in time for the next playoffs, if I make them.

Nonsense, there will be 11 studs because I draft 12th.

Emmanuel Snyder, and WR Al Poston (Camden) are two once-Utah core backups whom we probably gave up on much too early. We drafted Snyder late and picked up Poston as a UDFA in the same year - both went on to have solid, decent, 11-year careers in the league.

                        Foos, that's the spirit!

Re: the class, it's always a risk. I think that's why it doesn't ever pay to lose. Even if you do accumulate a nice little collection of 70-80 rated superstars, you might not have the right pieces assembled at once. Teams in need of a large-scale makeover need to be pretty damn picky about what they get out of that top draft choice, like preferably a generational QB such as Covington. Lake County is going to be happy for a while, and now they can just add pieces at their leisure. Denver is going to be happy for a while....Yuma, and that DT...

Unless it's that really sensational *impact* guy at the right position and with the right bars, it's easy to "blow" a top pick on some mega-stud who is just going to sit around getting old for a few years, and cost you a crap-ton of money on the next reneg.

Whew. Only lost TE Whiting to retirement, though I was surprised he went this year and not the next.

So finally, RB Isaac Staat is retired, as I expected, but 10 seasons at the highest level is more than most of the top RB. It's a shame for us don't reach the playoffs this last season as a tribute to him for all this year he gave us.

As I said after the lost at Camden, a new era has begun in South Maryland, post incoming.
