Maybe I'm not very observant --- but do rating changes take place week to week ? or only at the end of the preseason? (I tried some searches at fof but could not find an answer?)

Ratings can change in any given week, both current and future. You'll see the most movement with younger players' current ratings. It's fairly common to see a rookie who plays every week add 15-20 points over the 22 weeks of preseason+regular season. In my most recent SP season, I had a rookie tight end improve from 54/84 to 75/84 over the course of the season.

Is there a way to check how much a player has improved or doe ou have to keep track yourself?WINDY CITY PLAYBOYS

It is ABSOLUTELY worth using. It's good to see which of your players are improving, and which are declining. It helps in tracking aging, ratings losses to injuries and general player development. I recommend taking roster snapshots at each of the follow points, with sample savenames for the roster text file:
VERY BEGINNING OF SEASON (the section when retirements are announced): 2007a.txt
BEGINNING OF FREE AGENCY: 2007b.txt
IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO TRAINING CAMP: 2007c.txt
IMMEDIATELY AFTER TRAINING CAMP: 2007d.txt
END OF PRESEASON: 2007e.txt
WEEK 9 (midseason): 2007f.txt
END OF SEASON: 2007g.txt
This will help you catch trends. I'd do this every season. Then, once we're a few seasons in, you won't need to track ALL of these for back seasons. When I run Change Tracker after the 2030 training camp, I'd select the following reports to track:
2026c.txt
2027c.txt
2028c.txt
2028d.txt
2029c.txt
2029d.txt
2030a.txt
2030b.txt
2030c.txt
2030d.txt
That would track general changes for the last five seasons, more detailed changes for your 3-year-and-under players, and every potential change point for the current season.

Go into printers, select properties. Hit the PORTS tab. Make sure the port FILE - Print to file is selected. If so when you print you will be prompted for an output path, ie. C:\roster.txt
Also make sure the printer you select is Generic/Text only.WINDY CITY PLAYBOYS
