    Utah 33, Los Alamos 7

The Bees absolutely exerted their will on LA today. Given what a great defense the Monsters have at every level...a really impressive season opener here.

At halftime, Utah had run 42 plays to LA's 21. Utah punted once all game (and it went for 70 yards). We took a while to see things get going -- Giang's engine revving up, the Boone-to-Sidharta connection, and the pass rush all took a few quarters to get into gear. But by the end of the game the Los Alamos defenders were so thoroughly weary of defending the Alamo that Utah fullback Kerry Duran was able to spring a run for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Turns out I forgot to make Melnick the Nickel WLB, and O'Donnell got the start and a whole lot more playing time today. If anything, it shows us how badly we need Melnick out there instead -- he got 1.5 sacks in just 14 plays.

Sidharta: really feasted on the double teams they were throwing Foley's way, and notches his first 100-yard game as a Bee. Look for Ray Mansker to get a quick promotion to #3 unless Vandersommen pulls his head up soon.

By the numbers: 263 rushing yards, 293 passing - 556 total - and 73 plays run on 37 minutes time of possession.

Nothing good about it unless you are a Utah fan. Dismal performance, lynch mobs forming outside the Los Alamos coaches facility.

Wow, what an opener. Early on we fell 13-0 to St. Paul, who was moving the ball on us at will. Then, on a punt, St. Paul fumbled and reserve guard Chuck Frieder took it 48 yards for a TD to narrow the gap.

Duckworth fumbled and turned it over on his first carry, and had a rather pedestrian performance. The evil Johnathon McBriar showed up for 3 quarters, fumbled twice and throwing two picks, but he turned on his patented McBriar magic in the 4th quarter, putting up some nice numbers and rallying the team to a win.

Bernie "The Best 36 Rated Receiver I have ever had" Jones had a huge day with 7 catches, 108 yards and a TD despite no longer starting. Teddy Barnikow scored the first two receiving TDs of his career while taking on a bigger role as a receiver than usual, due to our signing Ralph Bell, a Boston castoff that we never should've released. (I didn't really know what I was doing in my first season here!) Second year receiver Reverend Lovejoy had a huge TD catch too.

Any time you can get a win when you turnover the ball four times it's a lucky day. We need McBriar to not be the turnover machine he was today if we're going to reach my 12-4 projection. It's like having Tony Romo as QB.

gg St. Paul, I got away with one today.

The 65 yard game winning TD into double coverage against the dime caused me to cry. A sad defensive performance by the Bandits against a superior coach.

                Por/Anch

Portland finally play @ and above its potential.

Pleaseant 17/21 213 Yds -1 Td -He also ran for 44 yds on 4 Carries and a TD.
Harmon 24 Rushes for 111 Yds and a TD.
Rookie TE Hartman got his first TD of his rookie season.
Cheli moved from weakside to strongside this year and came up with 9 tackles and a INT.

Total Yds - Portland 386 and Anch 135.

This was by far the most complete game by Portland Phantoms under Head Coach/GM RyanRutherford and argueable the best game of Pleasant who is starting his 3rd season as quarterback.

The defense played well this week in a hard fought win. Our run game didn't get going much until we broke a couple late in the game, but Albert Garner was in good form and Darrin Schoen looks like he is ready for the number 1 receiver job. His performance this week was outstanding.

Maybe it was from the preseason. My lightly injured backup guard Marchant got in on ONE snap all game and came back tired. Ha!

Nice start, very solid all around with some slop. Some great defensive plays, nice tone to start the season (and Bollywood's career) :D

Hopefully getting the injuries out of the way early, bunch of nicks & scrapes already.
