It's really strange, in the CyFL there is a 7th year (6 full seasons) QB rated 94/94 with a career 73.0 QBR. A 6th year QB rated 81/81 with a career 74.2 QBR. A 7th year QB rated 79/79 on thenewchuckd's perenially 100-roster-rated team and he's had a lot of underwhelming seasons (although his career rating is high 80s. A step down from stellar).
Also a number of teams there that have assembled WR1/WR2 talent like you wouldn't believe, and still haven't amounted to much success. Really odd.
One of the OSFL's perennial powerhouses, Camden, runs the ball 7,000 times a year. Their OL really love each other or something. Utah's four-year run lately has been built on the #3, 2, 2, and 2-ranked rushing productions, while passing has been efficient but volume-wise, only #17, 8, 19, and 8.
Washington had some useless QB carry them to the playoffs (before being replaced and led by the aforementioned, magical Tom Skeen) and won a bowl with that venerable RB of theirs, whose name currently escapes me...
So while an all-powerful QB/WR/WR combo *should* be dominating, there are many ways to win. And while there's immense value to a super-QB/super-WR pair, I don't think it's necessarily wise to go overkill spending for 'adequate' at those positions (namely -- reaching for the meh, overrated mid-40s WR in mid-round 1 when there are stud DL around, unless said WR has 100 BPR or something).
Oh yeah, Clay, Mickey Baines finally turned in a pretty sweet season production-wise last year! 15 TD, 2 INT. Good stuff.
