  • Run down of the off-season:

    How does it work?

Is there a re-signing period or do you have to re-sign players before the year is over?

Come a vet just explain it all.

I'm sure (okay, not really sure) we are going to do restricted FAs as the first week of FA...

You can renegotiate anytime, now would be a good time. In the offseason there is a free agency period that runs prior to the draft. The first stage, if I remember correctly, is staff hirings/firings; then stadium requests and ticket prices; then you get to see the draft file. You can usually run free agency right up until the draft, after the draft, and through the pre-season. You'll have the right to carry sixty players on the roster during the first few preseason games, then there's a cut down period to 53 for the last preseason game or two. I can't remember. Which is strange because I'm in the DFL preseason right now.

If you have any 1 year guys that you want to keep, you should renegotiate sometime before the Super Bowl Stage is run. IF you are going to try to negotiate hard ball style, I would recommend doing it at least 2 stages before that. If you have guys who are under contract for 2 or more years, there will be a chance to renegotiate them prior to the main FA period (actually week 1 of the FA stage.)

There is restricted Free Agency, right? What are the rules there?

Question: I've been trying for weeks to resign my QB. He has turned down every offer and I'm reticent to offer him the full amount of his asking. I've been more than fair with my offers (no McCaskey's here!) but at this time, I'm thinking it'll be best to let him enter FA and tell him F@#% you very much for a crappy season and good riddance.

Your thoughts, advice and non-sarcastic comments are welcome.

ok, sarcastic comments welcome too, as long as they're funny...

My starting QB is asking for a lot of money after a decent season. But I have tailored my gameplan to his skills so much that I think he really isn't worth the price tag.

              Plus, he is old.

But, at the same time I really don't want to go into the off-season with a need at QB.
