The regular season is over, and the playoffs are about to start. I thought this would be a fun idea for teams to think about, especially ones that are out of the playoffs. Who is your current team like? I'm not looking for, "well, I am really good on defense and bad on offense, so I must be like the Chicago Bears." I am looking for specific years, matching to players, play calling, etc.
Analysis:
My team is extremely conservative on offense leading the league in rushing attempts and being 2nd to last in passing yards. My quarterback is short, old, and I have to change my entire game plan around based on his passing skills. On offense, I have two backs that carry the load. One of my better offensive players is my fullback.
I have one of the better defenses in the league, and 5th in turnover margin. I won my division and have the #3 seed. My special teams is so-so. I am very poor on returns, below average punting, but one of the best kickers in the league, and he is very experienced.
Conclusion:
If I had to compare the Portland Phantoms to an NFL team, I would have to say they are similar to the Bills of 1999. Doug Flutie compares to my 5-11 Shaun Douglas. The Bills had two RBs share the rushing load, good for second in the league in rushing attempts. One of their two pro bowlers was their FB, Sam Gash. They had a top five defense. And they had a veteran kicker in Steve Christie.
Lets just hope my first round match-up against the Punxsutawney Phils doesn't end in a Music City Miracle.
