  • A free agency question.

Ok, I'm one of the stupid n00bs, so here goes:

I thought this might "fix" itself, but now that we are at free agency, the numbers are confusing me. My cap used next year says that I've only used 65,250,000 and the salary cap is 105,300,000. The confusion comes into play when i look at my Room under cap and Max for New player. Room under cap = 9,410,000 and Max for New Player = 5,360,00. What gives, by my math I should have 40,000,000 under the cap. What am I doing wrong?

The cap room next year is referring to the 2008 season, not the upcoming one (2007).

Not entirely sure why the "Room under cap" and "Max for new player" are so different. I thought it had to do with being able to afford enough players to fill all the required spots, but the numbers don't add up. The in-game help file doesn't really help either.

Ah, think I figured it out. With the draft picks you currently have, you'll need $4,050,000 in cap space to sign them. Leaving 5,360,000 for any other player this season.

Exactly correct. Also, the cap number for next year is intended to help you plan for the future.

I understand that. I thought that cap number next year was for the upcoming season. That's where my major confusion came in.
