I think it is a fair strategy. No one is being "stolen". These guys are UFA's. They are free to sign with anyone. If you want to ensure that you sign a guy jack up the bonus and offer a one year deal.

I am against adding FA rules that are not already implemented in the game. It makes it harder to keep track of for people that are in multiple leagues and adds more work for the commish as they have something else they have to worry about keeping track of.

I know the reasoning behind it. I've done it myself. Ya know...if you can't beat 'em, blah blah blah.

I just think it takes the strategy out of creating a deal for a player. "Here. I have a ton of money. I'll throw it all at this guy and do it again next year." You don't see this in the real NFL. If I'm trying to build my team and see a guy in year 5, fresh off his rookie contract, and I think he can fit into my team's future. I'm going to offer him a 3/4 year deal. I want him for the future. I make a pretty good offer. Then in comes quick draw and offers a one year deal and there goes my future. Only to bid on him again the following year. It's just my opinion, but I think it's bogus.

I'm not saying to make any rules, even though I'd like to see one. I'm just expressing my feelings about the one hit wonders. Trust me. I'm not losing sleep over it.

One of the reason 1 yr deals win over multiple year deals because the one year deal is usually ALL bonus.

1 yr $1 mil sal, $13 mil bonus

The player will almost always take the 1 yr bonus deal.

If that's all I need to do... I have some adjustments to make in all my offers.

Actually, all you really need to usually do is jack up the bonus.

I've won a few players this year because I've dumped most of my offer into bonus.

I've never liked seeing a year 5/6 guy being "stolen" in a one year deal. Rubs me wrong. And I'm a pretty easy going guy.

It's something I'm coming around on, even if I use 1 yr deals frequently.
