Pre-season ranking poll?

One thing I love about college football is the polls. Their inherent bias despite actual results is a lovely thing in my opinion. in fact, the AP Poll now does this for all 32 NFL teams

With this in mind, I'd like to perform a poll based on how you think the teams are. All ballots would be private, of course.

If this happened, it would follow the AP format, which works like this (assuming a 15 team ballot): the first team on your list gets 15 points. The second gets 14, and so on until the last which gets 1 point. These are tallied up, and the team with the most points are #1, and such like that.

So, I ask two questions:

-Would you like to do this?

-if so, how many teams should be allowed to be ranked? Would it be top 10? 15? All 32?

-if not, why not?

Thank you all for considering this idea. Ideally, this poll would be updated weekly. It would have no place in actual ability of the team - it simply would show who the league as a whole thinks the top teams are.

Maybe a top 16 would be an easy number. Probably will have a lot of ties down at the bottom but hey. I don't think we'll be able to get people to rank all 32 teams every week.

I like the idea of having the top 16 rankings however considering how we play 3 game weeks in a actual week I'd suggest sending in votes anytime after Friday's game - Sat night, then you can post totals like on Sunday. That way I feel people be more willing to send in votes once a week other than 3 times a week. What ever you all decide though I am in.

Good point -- once per RL week rather than game week. And maybe 10 is easier. Or, how about 12, the size of the playoff field? :)

ASAP, I'd like to release the first poll before the season starts

I'd say you need to post a cut off time for people to have their votes in by. Then when ever that cut off is if only 8 people reply go ahead and post results. Also if you want and your too busy I don't have a problem letting folks send votes to me as your second person. I am disabled and online all the time, so days you are busy let me know and I will post results for ya.

You should also start a new thread giving the rules of what they need to do, so everyone knows. Going through all this thread to find out whether or not this is happening is what most people will do.

To get the most participation, a new thread is your best bet.
