  • Development Questions

I know all rookies come in being developed at different levels. I see my OLB I drafted last year with my 1st pick is now 100% developed. Other players I sometimes look at even in their 4th year they are not 100% developed.

Question 1. I assume if they are a starter they will develop much faster than a backup does, is this correct.

Question 2. On avg say you have a player 50% developed how many years does t take him to reach 100% as starter and how many as a backup?

Question 3. Does it matter on how fast they develop depending on position they play or does every position develop at same rate appox?

Reason I am asking is so I know if I want to start a veteran or rookie in some different spots. Mainly my rookie TE.

Correct. Three things increase the speed of development (increase in current rating):
    1. Going through training camp
    2. Increased playing time
    3. Having a mentor on the roster at the same position.

Generally speaking, a player will fully develop somewhere around the middle to end of their second full year as a starter. As a backup, I would guess around the end of year 3 or after training camp in year 4. It depends on the factors listed in my answer to your first question.

In theory, O-Line should develop faster than other positions because they do not leave the field (for backups) when playing on offense.
