  • Player Information

In the past I have never really paid that much attention to player information. However during the draft process I learned you want a player with a low or better yet very low intelligence. Seems like you'd want it high as in most things higher is better guess not here. Anyways I am very curious about the Wants Winner does this mean he really wants to be on a winning team and will leave if given chance? Then again made me wonder if it means this guy is going to go beyond giving it 110% he is going to play his heart out for you? Could it mean he wants to be on a winning team and if not he you might say become depressed and play lousey?

Loyalty I take it will be like F/A more willing to stay with his original team if money is right than leave for a few dollars more.

Leadership I figure is helping mentor younger players and inspiring them.

Personality & Popularity I have no idea what they are for or even if they are important.

Mostly though the Wants Winner I'd like to know what that one is and how important a factor it is, if at all.

Wants Winner - players with a high wants winner will be more likely to choose a more successful team rather than a less successful team in free agency

Leadership - The player in each position group with the highest leadership is the team leader

Personality - A higher personality rating affects cohesion in positive (affinity) and negative ways (conflict)

Popularity - I am not very clear on this one. From the reading I have done it seems that players with higher popularity have a higher chance of winning season awards. I hypothesize that it may also affect ticket sales and that cutting or trading a player with high popularity might be negatively affect attendance.

^ yep, I think that's covered it. Should add that which player becomes a leader is also based on their years of experience in the league. Personality affects chemistry (affinities/conflicts) which is different from cohesion (which is based on # of years in a row on the same team).

And it's not that you necessarily want low intelligence players. It's just that a low intelligence score *can* offset a decent but underwhelming sole score. You can think of it as "not much of that sole is from their intelligence, so all the more left over from the actual ratings bar [play diagnosis, route running, hole rec, avoid interceptions, etc.]" When you get a guy that just has a really low sole, or a really high sole, you're almost sure to see a low (or high) intel anyway.

Nothing really to add that Rob and Aston haven't already covered regarding Wants Winner, other than (what was for me at least) an amusing observation.

Stephen McMaster, who I noted in my Change of Scenery post as having started 160 games in the past 13 seasons with the Chicago Reapers and never having made the playoffs, has a 100 Wants Winner.

The poor bastard has been trapped in Chicago through a combination of renegotiated contracts and franchise tags for what I believe is now the 7th longest (and currently the longest active) playoff drought in league history.

Of course he is also idolized with a 100 popularity. Proving once again no one produces loveable losers quite like the city of Chicago.

I thought position experience also mattered in order to determine if they're a leader or not. A player who is in the league 5 years but still not red in his position won't be a leader.

          Something like that.

Or does it? Note "Play to Win"

Hmmm. So does this mean he plays harder to win? More big plays and such? Plays above his bars maybe? I smell a case study.

Are "Wants Winner" and "Play to Win" not the same thing? I thought the values are the same when you look at a player.

My bad. I meant to say chemistry.

Well, they're both listed under personality, but one is missing from one screen, and present in the other and vice versa. Not to mention, they're the same value for both. :)

Sometimes I feel a little dumb asking some of the questions I do, but I like seeing the different thoughts you all have, and the things you bring out that I have missed. Thanks guys, your the greatest bunch of guys out there.

You clearly haven't been out much.

Maybe I should just speak for myself, but I think most of us are just going on intuition on a lot of these things. Jim has said he wants us to go by the face of things as much as possible and I think he does a good job for the most part. Of course, a lot is open to interpretation, which is why guys look under the hood where they can.

In what I posted, there is confusion simply because I take that at face value.
