Wow, I am shocked sometimes at the price some players get thru free agency. If they have a scout rating of like 80's or higher. Example $45 Mil for T Perez. Starting to wonder if I'd be better off staying away from players that are superstars. Make a team of all just solid players with scout rankings of 45-65.

This, and good drafting, is really the best way to build a team from the ground floor. Some trading is good also, but in this particular league there aren't a lot of good trading opportunities. While it is true what others have said about me (that I value players differently than the majority), I have found plenty of trading opportunities in other leagues I play in. So I have to believe it's this particular league that is different. Also, for the record, I do play a much different type of gameplan that just about everyone else, and that is most of the reason why I have a different valuation system.
In essence, you can make use of the top notch players in free agency when you have a lot of cap space. But definitely forget about them if you don't. And remember, the 1 year deal is the way to go in these cases, but only ONE huge one year contract per year, so you can use the franchise tag next season on the guy.GM of the South Maryland Maulers 2034-2040

Value is a relative concept.
The top paid tackles in the NFL are making 10-12MM per with a 143MM salary cap. Ours is at 250++MM or something. The top tackles are only making 15M salary. I'd expect the bonuses to be pretty big given that information. Seems like all the extra cash of the salary cap goes to bonus because that's what the players want.Last edited by Delandis; 08-25-2015, 10:41 AM.

A 5th year, 80+ rated player is going to draw in absurd prices as they simply don't hit the market all that often.
That said, spending has been somewhat out of whack in this league for a while as our cap kept increasing quite a bit during the 2k7 years.
I'm with you that a team with 50-60 rated players is the way to go, but having a stud isn't something to shy away from. Restraining one's self from over spending is pretty key to building a winning team.

I think a rebuilding team with cap room can easily justify $45 million in cap space. You just need to plan your budget accordingly.
I also agree that trading can be different in other leagues. Every league is different. Any league with bomber is always going to suck for trading! But of course it is fun in so many other ways!

This what you can do when you pretend all your players be below 4 years of experience, when they finish the rookie deals the asses want to be paid, it doesn't matter the rating. They want to pay according to their playtime... And studs wants to cross the $25M mark, so prepare your budget accordingly to what's going to happen in 4 years from now :)Miami Sharks (BLB)

Even in the single game, the computer teams sign guys to insane contracts. I havent really seen anything different by us oomans.
That contract for the tackle might be 1 exception.
But those guys put butts in your seats so for your long run financials, can be worth it.Utah Bees

When I was introduced to the idea of FOF7, I had understood it as a version of the game designed to put everybody in cap hell. It hasn't been quite as tight or terrifying as I'd imagined. There are still teams that have a lot of cap space in the offseason, but also teams that don't have any. It's both easier to get into cap trouble, and pays off more to stay out of it.
What's interesting is how different factors play off against each other. How do you value a player? Well, it depends on the alternatives. If teams are all struggling vis-a-vis cap, they'll be watching their spending. Sometimes, letting a player hit the market saves you money. Other times, it'll cost you big time if you want to keep him. Depends on the position. Depends on the landscape in the league at the time. Depends on how comfortable you are with risk -- all it takes is one team.
One time in another league, I passed on extending a decent, but older player at $7.5M/yr, and he promptly got $11M/year and more bonus than my team could have stomached. Still, I put that money to much better use that season. Now, I've got this 4th year CB who's 42/42 and wants an $8M/yr deal. That team doesn't have the luxury of spending $8M on an average CB. But, it's poised to have a huge need at DB, and there were absolutely no prizes on the FA market the previous year (which may or may not continue). Other teams might not value him very much. Or, they might offer way more bonus than the modest $6M over 4 years he wants now.
So, it's not always obvious to me what kind of decisions are the best. You don't want to be sinking a ton of money into average players and leave you out of the game in FA. Unless there's nothing for you in FA anyway and you'd just lose your own players.
It's kinda fun, always interesting, and always different. All that said, if I were Jim, there'd be plenty of things I'd do different with contracts and free agency. Hey, it's better than it was, though.Last edited by Aston; 08-25-2015, 06:45 PM.Float likeabutterflysting likeabee.

Kalispel went 1-15 last year. 1-15!
They didn't have players and their record reflected that. Are they supposed to just sit back and watch elite players go to the perennial powerhouses?
They had over 100MM in cap space. I'd much rather splash the cash on an elite left tackle rather than just have the money not being used in the season.

Hey - I never said bomber wasn't a great owner! He is right up there with the Astons of the world. I just can't seem to trade with him. Although, as bomber said, it is probably something I am doing wrong.
I would much rather be in a league with bomber than 99% of the other FOF owners out there. The best part is randomly poking him and watching what happens. Plus I have it on authority that he is a king pin in the porn business.
