Preference List Use

Now that we're ALMOST through the first round and MOST everyone has made a pick it is safe to assume everyone has at least logged in and is aware that there is a draft going on in this league.

Therefore there should be no more excuses along those lines.

Now, there will never be a solution to the "fast draft vs. slow draft" debate so I offer this query. Are you or aren't you planning to use your preference list?

Please vote and add reasoning if you do not plan to use it. And yes expect ridicule if you do not.

I don't use it during the week, unless my pick is coming up soon and I'm going to bed. I have access to the site all day at work and at home, so am not really away enough to necessitate it.

During the weekends, I'll set it but my next pick isn't until the middle of the 3rd round so probably not until we get much closer.

I check in often and even have every pick sent to my blackberry. However, I only set my list when I'm about 5-7 picks away just in case everyone else decides to make a run on a certain position or whatnot.

What I don't understand is if your pick is coming up soon, why not just put everyone you want on top no matter if they're there or not.. not trying to pick on anyone but like for instance tonight... SoMiss has about 10 guys on his list but its not set and we have the next 6 guys behind him that are ready to go.

I have it loaded, turn it on to pick once when I'm close, then go in and turn it off right after and reevalute the list and my needs based on the first two picks. It's such a dynamic atmosphere, I wanna make sure I get the best player for my team.

It's actually fairly predictable: when there are long delays in an online league of any kind, people disengage. That's my primary reason for wanting a draft like last year's (entire thing done in 3 1/2 days) versus this year's. Momentum is *very* important with online leagues, and we've lost a significant amount of it. The poll went up 24 hours ago, and less than half of the owners have bothered to vote. This is exactly the kind of apathy that this kind of draft generates.

For once, I agree with SD. Couple that with the very long--in terms of FOF--time span at the end of last season, and it's problematic. The attention span is pretty short. But, if we get the bugs worked out with the new commish things will transition much smoother in between seasons and in the offseason.

What is the the difference between this year's draft and last year's draft? We are using the same utility, 3/4th of the owners are the same and the new owners are the ones who are constantly checking in and drafting on time. The only difference I see is that we started a day late and thats because this was our first year hosting the draft utility and it took more time to set up. If the draft started on Saturday we would be further because we would have had two days with no one having work or school responsibilities. If there is something different that Andrew or I did this year, let me know because as much as I can see there is no differnce.

As for voting in this poll, I can see why some people havent because some may see it as another complaint thread. I dont think there is an owner here who is against using the preference list (I think jzicc vote was a joke) or wants to hold up the draft. To be honest, Ive been monitoring the entire draft and only 3 or 4 owners (out of 32) have actually held us up and 2 of them had legitimate excuses (working out trades etc.) I wish the draft could have been done in 3 1/2 days too but It wont be. With that said I'm open to any suggestion you guys may have (shorter draft time, mandatory preference list use after the 2nd rnd etc)

Well, it just may be a perception problem caused by my own impatience coupled with the delay in between the seasons. . .I don't think that'll happen next season since consistent leadership at the commish level is readily apparent now. . .the turnovers in leadership hurt leagues more than anything. . . but that has rectified itself . . .

so I don't see it as a complaint thread, . . . just a little cheese with the whine and I'll be okay. ..

because SoMiss didn't know which direction he wanted to go. Sorry. I thought i'd go with another offensive linemen but decided to go running back. I wouldn't had the freedom to change my mind while I was away. Again, I was available. I was on xbl, could've sent me a msg. I was on OS, could've sent me a msg. I didn't know it was my pick. want to send me a text next time? I'll post my mobile number...lol

Its been a tough offseason with the commish change, problems with the patch, problems with the draft utility and the number of new owners. I think that once we get past TC everything will fall into place. All of the new owners are active and participating regularly and most of the old owners are very active so i feel good about this year.

I don't mean this to sound condecending so don't take it that way but there is a notification system w/in the utility. On the lower LH side you can enter your email address and it will send you a notice when you're up. Not sure if that meets your needs (i.e. I don't know what xbl and OS are...:blush2:)

Note also to others if you do monitor an email account moreso than these boards...

Also, I'm done bitching in here, it is obviously not appreciated or helping move things along so I give up. I'll just worry about my team and my own shit.

And to Skydog's point, yes this is me disengaging.
