I'll be interested to see how this turns out. It might make or break me staying in the OSFL. To be honest, FOF has lost it's luster since I started playing OOTP in the BLB. OOTP is just a much more polished game, and it's more enjoyable to play, in my opinion. I've been holding out for this FOF release to see if it's improved enough to keep my interest. I'm really hoping that it is. I'm really hoping that the staff draft has been replaced by something that makes some kind of sense.

OOTP is pretty great. I would have continued learning how to play it in MP if I had the time. I've played a ton of the SP.

I'm more into FOF than OOTP, warts and all. FOF simply has the best sim engine underneath the hood with OOTP coming in a close second. There's certainly more flexibility and more stats in OOTP but FOF is more enjoyable for me.

I wish this would come out natively on Mac.

The staff draft is better. You have more control. Its not ideal, but the game weights the preferences differently for each coach, so the best bet to get the best possible coach is to set which type of scheme you want to look for and then just max out the preferences list. The game will pick the best available coach this way. Still can't choose age range, but you can at least make sure the coach you get has a background in the type of scheme you want to employ.

Can you explain what you mean by "type of scheme?"

That's disappointing to hear. I don't understand the mentality behind the staff draft. There's already a system for signing free agents, why isn't this same system used for staff? It would require almost zero work, would be more realistic, and would make for a much more enjoyable game.

Why are we limited to one stage for making staff changes? The developer wrote a whole blog post about trying to make free agent signings as realistic as possible in regards to timing. He wrote another whole post about making extensions as realistic as possible in regards to timing. Then he acts like all staff decisions league wide have to be made in a single day, and that this failed draft is the only way to make that happen.

Buffalo just fired their OC midseason. If realism is an objective, why can't I do the same? There's no reason for it from a programming perspective. You could add one field to each coach and player to differentiate between them and add one more menu option that pulls up free agents with the coach value in that field. Make sure the original free agent window only pulls up free agents with the player value. Bam, you're done. Coaches are treated like free agents and you can hire and fire at will. He could probably knock it out in an afternoon. Coaches already have the ability to make salary demands and determine whether or not they're willing to take a job, so everything else is already in the game. It's just a shame that this keeps getting overlooked.

My big hope is that he really cuts down on the little clicking and makes the experience simpler.

Also that he keeps the draft export data backwards compatible.

I agree on the coaching thing..

To further explain, the schemes are new.. OC and DC now run schemes like 3-4, 4-3 over, 4-3 under, 3-4 Eagle.. Or on offense they run balanced, west coast, erhardt perkins, smashmouth, etc.

But the advancements in this game are incredible from a game planning standpoint.. It is clear so much work went into that aspect that I can understand why coach hiring hasnt been touched much.. I think with the right amount of feedback there is a chance he changes that in the future with a patch.

This new version is going to be the closest thing to head to head coaching that this game can get. Its super exciting.
