  • FOF MP People, We *Need* To Go Give FOF8 Positive Reviews

We, the FOF MP Community, should be giving the game positive reviews. We participate in a MP environment in a niche hobby. We need new blood if we want to keep that hobby vibrant and motivate Jim to keeping improving the game. Whether we like the particular design decisions Jim made around this or that, it's a very solid game in a franchise that we all like, and the best way to assure that the franchise continues to improve--and that we get new blood for MP--is by the game getting a large number (not just percentage) of positive reviews. The number as of this writing is pretty much pathetic. It doesn't have to be a very long review. Just basically a "thumbs-up. Love the series. It's a worth successor" is enough. But well-written ones help, too. Also giving thumbs-up to other positive reviews. Let's get on it.

Also, please spread the word to other leagues that you're in where I may not have posted this.

The game gets the reviews it deserves, just like every other game on Steam. If Jim needs better reviews to sell his game he should make a better game that warrants better reviews. The fault doesn't lie with the community.

First let me say I have not seen the new version of the game yet as currently can't afford it. So I am not saying anything positive or negative.

I like reading both good and bad reviews. I don't care what the product is or the service is. There will be good things about it and bad things. This helps me know if I want the product / service or not. Even when I was a restraunt manager I wanted people to leave commits even if it was bad, it shows what needs improvement. Yes the positive is what you strive for but when you read the negative it should let you know what the customer wants to see improvements in.

If you like to inmerse and spend loads of time in a game. FOF8 is brilliant. If you want to just export because you are use to, then it isn't. I think this new version gives an identity to your team. I love it. Before I couldn't find the balance I wanted. Specially in defense. In FOF7 those 3-4 formations aggressive run focus in 2 minute situations were taking my nerves out...

I don't think Ben was trying to keep people from writing bad reviews. I mean, the game has a 96% positive rating on the Steam page.

          Was it significantly lower recently?

It's the lack of reviews in either direction that I'm commenting on.

This is pretty simple to me:

            1. I participate in a niche hobby.
            2. My enjoyment of said hobby will increase if more people join that hobby.
            3. Games that get lots of positive reviews on Steam get extra attention.

Therefore, to increase my enjoyment of my hobby, I write a positive review of the game and encourage others to do so. 96% is nice, but it's still a low overall number of reviews. I'm just trying to increase that to (hopefully) increase my enjoyment of my hobby.

I get where you're coming from, but I think that the number of reviews is actually pretty good. The game has been out for less than a month and the peak playership is 103 players, with an average of 62 playing at any one time. There are currently 35 reviews. I think that those ratios are high, if anything.

For contrast, OOTP17 has been out for 9 months and has a playership peak of 973 players, with an average of 509 playing at any one time. There are currently 431 reviews.

In other words, FOF8 is pretty close to OOTP17 in regards to the percentage of players that have left a review even though OOTP17 has been out 9 times as long as FOF8. I wouldn't call those numbers pathetic by any means.

Definitely appreciate where both of you are coming from. FOF could always use a big boost to reach the "overwhelmingly positive" metrics and a little bit of a direct campaign from Ben can't hurt towards achieving that. Jim on balance is a pretty savvy guy, and a strong community following helps keep things going.

Also, MP folks appreciate this game in a way the SP peons can't even grasp /dustsoffshoulders

All though I'm hoping for some serious game fixes I wrote a nice glowing review. I appreciate Jim's hard work allowing me to have a little time away from the world running my back to back Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys.

It only took me until 2025 to do so!
