If we could have a Trade Committee it could be discussed the terms of the trade... But as we don't have one, it is not possible.

Had another interesting choice to make at 24 this year.
Our defense was our weakest link last season, particularly our secondary. And with both of our starting safeties set to be departing by free agency we had a gaping whole to fill. And then into our lap falls Georgia's Micah Hartman.
If I had to make this pick before I got my interviews back this sim, it would have been an easy one. Solid combines, good looking bars, and even a potential affinity. But then the interviews came back. The big blue range bars some of which were flirting with the very top of the scale all retreated back into much less impressive orange ones. Very Overrated was the staff's consensus.
But even with that he still looks like a pretty good player, and it is definitely a need position,. Only now I am asking, "Who else is available?"
Tommy Thurmond was. The West Virginia linebacker was our highest graded player in the entire draft. Getting him at 24 would seem like a steal. His combines range from excellent to outstanding and he looks to have the bars to match. Although I didn't interview him so those might be lower than they appear.
But even if he is as good as first impressions suggest, is this going to be the pick that gives us the best return on our investment? Is he going to be the biggest improvement to our team? Linebacker was the only spot on our defense where I wasn't too worried. The ones I have aren't great, but compared to the mess that is my secondary, they'll do.
In FoF7 I would have just drafted him and switched over from a 43 to a 34 so I could use him alongside my other linebackers. Defensive tackle is another questionable spot on our team and that would be killing two birds with one stone. But in the new version we're locked into the 43 front for at least another year (and with the infuriating staff draft perhaps longer). And even though this version is supposed to have greater freedom in playing front 7 guys out of position, my experiments with single player thus far have not been impressive. Although I've also noticed that the changes to defensive game planning do mean that I'm using all three of my linebackers more often rather than before when you'd only really have to worry about the two guys who were one the field in nickle and dime formations.
So who do I pick? The looks like a stud player would might only be a moderate upgrade over what I already have? Or the potential affinity, but potentially not as good as he seems, guy who plays a position where I currently don't have anyone rated higher than 16/23?
The answer of course is C: None of the above.
Instead take the defensive tackle. His combines aren't as good, some of his bars rather worry me. Not to mention it's a position where I just just payed out $22 million for a veteran free agent, and a position that traditionally I've never placed a lot of value. But taking all of that into consideration, obviously he was the right choice.
(edit: and in the time it's taken me to write this, Therman and Hartmann have just been picked)Last edited by rando; 02-26-2017, 12:28 AM.

With that being said I am hanging it up in the OSFL. The league activity isn't what it used to be and I enjoy the human competition in my other league. As the longest tenured owner it was a blast and I had a lot of fun. I've been around since AHolbert, then Linty, then Brad, then Nutah, and now King...it takes quite a long time to go through 5 commishes! We've won a few championships, had our ups and down, and I spent countless hours working on my team!
Best of luck everyone. Take care.

On another note hopefully some old members will get missing OSFL and come back next season after resting a season off, or we will be able to recruit some new members. It has been suggested if any more members drop OSFL could die permanently. I'd really hate too see this happen, I am lousy at MP but I do enjoy it all the same and be it I could join a new league this is home and I really enjoy playing with you guys, your family. So I'm hoping it's just people are disappointed in only a few things but during the season we grow some new members or some old ones back after they have a break.

Since this is the closest we have to a draft discussion thread, I'll just keep posting these here.
Two more rounds down and our quest for secondary help remains unfulfilled.
I had 4 CBs on the top of my draft list after round 1. The last of them, Clayton Reeves, went just two picks before me at 22 to Chicago. Too bad, I liked him best.
I wasn't online when this pick came up so it went to my priority list which spat out G Vince Harmon UCLA. Can't really complain about this pick. As a rule I draft better when I'm not actually the one doing the drafting.
Looking over my priority list it seems Vince was one of three interior linemen I had graded almost equally. His 40 time and Agility drill scores put his just ahead of fellow guard and combine no-show Kenny Shreves. I'm always intrigued by combine skippers with big potential but unfortunately my current staff isn't much for scouting linemen and I didn't have enough interviews to spare to spend one on a guard so I'm really not trusting those bar of Shreves'.
Just a hair behind Harmon and Shreves I had C Anthony Lynn. There was another center, Jimmy Barlow, who would have also been in the mix but he looks to be more of a pass protector and I need a better run blocker at center. I made that mistake 6 years ago with taking our current starter, Poff, over Myron O'Donnell and have been regretting it ever since.
So I'm pleased as punch when my third round pick rolls around and Anthony Lynn is still available. Still no help for my secondary, but it's always nice when you can get a guy you had graded a full round earlier.
I'll just take some time to stuff my priority list with some more names just in case I'm not around when my 4th round pick comes up, and reorder some of these and then "select this player" and off to sleep.
That's odd, Lynn is still on my list. Maybe if I refresh? Oh... would you look at that, I done fucked up and clicked on the wrong guy. Huh.
This is why, as a rule, I draft better when I'm not actually the one doing the drafting.
