Well, I wouldn't say that they're 100% meaningless--maybe just 95% meaningless. ;)

I would say this: there are too many factors coming into play to get a large enough sample size to make meaningful decisions based on preseason stats. Show me a 45/45 RB who had 3.2ypc in preseason, and a 35/35 RB who had 5.2 ypc in preseason, and I'd still start the 45/45 guy. *shurg*

I like to mostly use the preseason as a measuring stick for young players that won't get a lot of PT during the season to improve their ratings.. If a guy shows improvement in ratings or plays head and shoulders above the opposition then I might give him more of a look in the regular season and give him the edge during roster cuts.
